We have a journey-level opportunity for an IT System Admin at the Technology Innovation Administration (TIA) who can support, manage, and maintain the systems within the Division of Child Support (DCS) at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). You will be working with a team of experienced system admins to serve both external and internal customers. Your work here will help Transforming Lives!

In this role, the primary responsibility for providing technical support to business process needs, virtual and physical systems infrastructure that support all DCS and other IT staff across the DCS enterprise. You are responsible for the clustered SAN environment and its dependencies requires advanced server knowledge. Your broad technical knowledge of multiple networks, platforms and computing environments and the tools & software needed to manage these environments that house large data stores is required. In addition, the DCS IT Infrastructure team will be involved in several upcoming projects that will focus on modernizing systems, and participation in these projects will provide exposure to cloud technologies and other modern platforms.  This opportunity will be hybrid/telework and the official duty station is in Olympia, WA

Some of what you'll do:

  • Serve as a Systems Administrator for on-premises and Virtual Server Systems for the Division of Child Support.

  • Create, implement, and maintain IT standards that affect the virtual server and Virtual PC infrastructure for server systems that encompass the DCS IT environment.

  • Standards include software deployment, installation, and configuration standards.

  • Provide guidance and mentoring for other IT team members in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and/or consulting tasks for complex systems, projects or operational problems that impact multiple business units with multiple business functions.

  • Utilize system management tools to monitor and maintain Server Systems and proactively respond to issues and errors.

  • Work with other DCS-IT technical staff to migrate and manage systems in the Azure Cloud environment.

  • Support and maintain existing, high-risk and impact mission critical communication servers, and applications.

  • Maintain systems environment using best practices and frameworks to ensure the system functionality and reliability and meet federal and state security requirements patched, secured, encrypted and on the latest software versions.

  • Ensure best possible data network for DCS with available resources.  Keep network hardware up to date with the latest firmware and BIOS.

  • Coordinate, plan and document implementation of new Systems and Hardware for DCS and Business partners.

  • Work with DCS-IT staff in planning for migration to upgraded OS versions and replacement hardware.

Who should apply?

  • A bachelor's degree including 9 semester or 15 quarter hours of computer science courses and four years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, or programming computer systems applications or databases.

OR

  • An associate degree or completion of an accredited vocational training program in an information technology or related program and five years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, or programming computer systems applications or databases.

  • Consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, or programming computer systems applications or databases will substitute for education based on one year of experience for two years of education. 

  • A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience (within the past 5 years) at the expert technical level designing, configuring, maintaining, and administering enterprise class environments; Microsoft Server 2008 or newer, Microsoft Windows 10, Windows Active Directory.

Preferred Education, Experience, or Certifications

  • DCS, ESA, DSHS, and OIC Information technology-related technical policies, security policies, standards, and service offerings.

  • Division of Child Support policy, practice, procedures, language, and workflow processes as they relate to SEMS and other computer software/databases used by staff.

  • Virtual Machine management and industry best practices.

  • Ability to assess business processes and needs, establish user requirements related to new hardware/software or software functions, and translate that knowledge into high level design strategies.
