DSHS FFA Maintenance Mechanic 2

We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team working at Western State Hospital. Work with us to Transform Lives!

As a member of the Facilities, Finance, and Analytics (FFA) team within our Maintenance and Operations Division, you will assist the maintenance shop in performing HVAC, plumbing, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, and repairs. Specifically, this role will focus on welding and work out of the machine shop.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as laundry and kitchen equipment; and air conditioning equipment

  • Maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution

  • Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition

  • Respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance

  • Take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment

  • Work from plans, sketches, or drawings

  • Estimate materials for completion of the job

What we are looking for:

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions described in this announcement successfully

  • Must be able to communicate with professional conduct and comprehend, through oral and written forms of communication, with management, peers, clients, and the public

  • Dress appropriately for the work to be performed including wearing Personal Protective Equipment when necessary.

  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of mechanical trades, safety precautions, record keeping, and basic computer skills

Who should apply?

  • Those with a high school diploma/GED

  • A valid driver's license

  • At least 4 years of experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade
