In this role, you'll play a vital part in ensuring the financial integrity and efficiency of the Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility. By managing key accounting tasks, including financial reporting, audits, and accounts payable, you will help maintain essential fiscal controls that directly support high-quality care for vulnerable populations. Your expertise in ensuring compliance and resolving financial issues will have a lasting impact on the effectiveness of state services.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Manage patient trust and group accounts, including audits, adjustments, and financial responsibility monitoring for cost of care

  • Prepare and reconcile daily bank deposits, verify incoming currency, and handle unclaimed or abandoned accounts, submitting reports to the Department of Revenue

  • Compile and process monthly payments, client work pay incentives, and recoveries for the Office of Financial Recovery (OFR)

  • Serve as Asset Coordinator, overseeing inventory and proper assignment of facility assets

  • Issue and cancel ORCA cards, maintaining monthly usage reports and inventory

  • Reconcile Purchase Card bills, process payments, and maintain audit records for financial transactions

What we're looking for:

  • Knowledge about and understanding of theory and practice of accounting; principles of cost accounting; modern office methods

  • Ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to a variety of accounting transactions; assemble, analyze, and prepare reports and statements of complex financial data

  • Ability to process large quantities of fiscal data consistency, accuracy, and efficiency

  • Ability to multi-task and schedule self to meet payment and report deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels. Optimize limited resources, and support the organizational goals

Who should apply?

Professionals with a Bachelor's degree, including 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting AND have 1-2 years of relevant professional experience

  • Professional experience may substitute for education year-for-year

Professionals with a master's degree in a financial-related field or certification as one of the following may also substitute for professional experience:

  • Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Internal Auditor

  • Certified Governmental Financial Manager

  • Management Accountant

Desired skills and abilities

  • Proficiency in automated patient account systems and intermediate skills in Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and the Washington State Chart of Accounts

  • Excellent communication skills for professional interactions with management, peers, clients, and the public

  • Ability to organize financial records, analyze data, and prepare reports

  • Knowledge of state budgeting and accounting principles, with the ability to adapt to changes and maintain confidentiality

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: This role will perform duties Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM in the facility. Telework options are not available.

  • Premium Pay: King County employees receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. An additional 5% premium is available for employees assigned to a facility providing direct care to residents, patients, or clients, with duties required to be performed on location.

  • Transportation: Employees are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
