DSHS Deputy Director, Human Resources Division

You are an innovative, courageous leader committed to making a strong Human Resource team even stronger, by building their future through customer focus, facilitating change, and guiding teams to success. As our Deputy Director for the division, you'll oversee daily operations to ensure effective management of HR functions and HR service delivery.

As a strategic partner to our Director of Human Resources, you'll supervise the Performance & Systems Senior Administrator, and have an indirect reporting relationship to the Office Chiefs. This job is based at Olympia headquarters building and is a member of the HR division of 160 professionals, located statewide, who're responsible for providing HR services to over 16,000 employees. You have a track record of verifiable success as an effective leader of people and processes, able to utilize and develop the talents of staff, to advocate on behalf of the Department, and to facilitate a team environment while being firm but fair. You're a good listener and have imagination, vision, ethics and flexibility.

Responsible for organizing HR service delivery to meet DSHS needs, you'll enjoy regular interactions and develop working relationships with a variety of Executives, appointing authorities, HR professionals at other state agencies, Attorney General's office, labor organizations, and the State Labor Relations Office.

Your success relies on your ability to:

  • Assist in creatively reorganizing reporting structures in the Human Resources Division to facilitate increasing service delivery focus on customer need.

  • Demonstrate a good sense of business, budgetary, facility, and people needs without autocracy.

  • Lead change as you convey high expectations, of self and others, while you participate in the continuous improvement of our services and programs.

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the scope and breadth of DSHS services and programs.

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide decisions, counsel, and consultation interactions with executive management, appointing authorities and staff at all levels.

  • Drive major initiatives to completion.

  • Knowledge of or experience with planning, development, or providing oversight of an organizations operations budget and facilities
