Here is your opportunity to positively contribute to the lives of children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. We're hiring a Behavior technician to join our closely knit team at the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), Children's State Operated Living Alternatives

  • West program in Lakewood, Washington.

This is a 24/7 residential program for children who have developmental disabilities and behavioral health issues. You'll implement psychological, behavioral, and crisis intervention services in participant homes and in the community.

Opportunities performed on site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

Some of what you'll do

  • Provide modeling, coaching, and consultation with members of the participant's support system in order to provide successful implementation of Positive Behavioral Support Plans

  • Identify barriers to the successful implementation of behavioral strategies and identify barriers to the successful transition to participants into their new homes

  • Coordinate with mental health experts in providing needed services to clients

  • Collect behavioral data and other relevant data for inclusion in functional behavior assessments of clients with challenging behavior

  • Provide behavioral intervention support during times of crisis/participant escalations

  • Travel is mostly within Pierce County

We are looking for professionals with 

A master's degree in psychology from an accredited school or department of psychology and one year of relevant experience in designing and/or implementing comprehensive behavioral therapies for individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behavior

Or

A bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social work, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience in designing and/or implementing comprehensive behavior therapies for individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behavior

(Employees obtain an Agency Affiliated Counselor certificate or higher certification or license from the Washington State Department of Health)

Desired:

  • Professional experience working with people who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities

  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis

  • Knowledge of the principles of positive behavior support, functional assessment, and positive behavior support plan development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation

  • Experience in the successful design and implementation of effective behavioral intervention strategies to address complex behavioral issues

  • Ability to teach skills to those with behavioral health issues
