DDA Attendant Counselor Manager 

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Development Disabilities Administration (DDA) is looking to hire an Attendant Counselor Manager to join the State Operated Living Alternatives (SOLA) team in Tumwater, Washington.

This job shares responsibilities on a rotation basis for after-hour calls. You'll work in an office setting and in client homes where you'll supervise Attendant Counselor 2's, ensuring that clients are provided the daily direct support to promote habilitation, health safety, protection, and quality of life in their homes and in the community. 

The working hours are Monday- Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., with occasional work outside of this schedule.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. 

Some of what you'll do

  • Interview and train new Attendant Counselor 2 staff

  • Observe, direct, train, guide, and monitor Attendant Counselor job performance

  • Direct employee activities to ensure the health, safety, and treatment needs of participants served are met

  • Assure employees complete all mandatory training, assessments, programs, treatment, recording, and documentation

  • Ensure clients are provided support and instruction, and assist clients in their own self-care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and household skills

  • Facilitate annual Individual Instruction and Support Plan (IISP) meetings and review meetings

  • Develop goals, plans of service, individual financial plans, or positive behavior support plans directly related to each participant's IISP

  • Follow up on incident reports

Who should apply?

Those with high school graduation or GED and four years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.

OR

High school graduation or GED and four years of experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher-level state class.

OR

Meets professional qualifications for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) (see addendum) and one year of experience working directly with persons with intellectual disabilities.

Addendum:

The requirements for a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) as included in the Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 42, Subpart D, Section 483.430, are as follows:

 1. A doctor of medicine or osteopathy

 2. A registered nurse

 3. An individual who holds at least a bachelor's degree in any of the following:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Speech
  • Audiology
  • Recreation and related fields
  • The Human Services (as defined at 438.430 (b) (5) (x)), includes but is not limited to: sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and psychology
  • Desired

    • Supervise, initiate, and participate in the hiring, training, counseling, corrective action, and evaluation process of staff
    • Ability to implement individualized programs, plans, and services to facilitate independence
    • Ability to handle multiple urgent issues and prioritize as needed
    • Demonstrated understanding of all aspects of client care
    • Ability to protect clients from harm to themselves or others and work with people with disabilities who may exhibit challenging behaviors
    • Ability to train, direct, and supervise the tasks of staff, and provide effective, timely feedback given orally or in writing.
    • Ability to lead a team and to be flexible for program needs.
