Here you will support the Department of Social & Health Services mission of Transforming Lives at the Western State Hospital in Lakewood. In this role - you will serve as an active member of a team providing comprehensive Recreation Therapy Services. These services include conducting assessments, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting therapeutic recreation interventions.

As a Pierce County employee - you are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Later start time is negotiable. Some of what you'll do:

  • As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the RT (Recreation Therapist) provides input regarding patient's progress during recreation therapy groups

  • Assess patients, plan therapeutic recreation interventions, and conduct therapeutic recreation groups

  • Document patient's progress and/or emergent incident involving patient in the patient chart

  • Maintain attendance for all programs led

  • Attend Evaluation and Treatment Conferences (ETCs) and assists in formulation of patient's treatment plan

  • Attend Rehab meetings as scheduled

  • Assist with Rehab sponsored events such as holidays, special events and diversity activities as needed

  • Participate in Rehab Quality Management activities to review/enhance evidence-based RT services

What we're looking for:

  • Strong leadership, planning, and facilitation skills

  • Ability to confidently lead groups of adults with a variety of mental and behavioral health challenges

  • Ability to work independently

  • Knowledge and experience in intervening and de-escalating in crisis or potentially dangerous situations with the ability to safely physically intervene to protect patients from harming themselves or others by following agency policy and procedures

Professionals who have graduated from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program

  • NOTE: Applicants must hold CTRS certification from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation and must register with the Washington State Department of Health
