Drug& Alcohol Technician III: $68,328 - $88,724

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with mandated collection and testing procedures outlined in 49 CFR Part 40, which are utilized to ensure the integrity of the chain of custody, urine drug collection, breath alcohol testing, and saliva testing.

  • Oversees a program of quality control and reviews control techniques of subordinate technicians; participates as a Laboratory Supervisor in audits, as required.

  • Supervises, plans, and conducts training for Drug & Alcohol Technician I & II in various laboratory techniques and trains the same in new procedures Oversees staff that respond to emergency on-site post-accident and reasonable suspicion testing locations with urgency and professionalism, as required.

  • Supervises staff that perform diagnostic tests (EKGs, Vision, audio tests, spirometry, etc.)

  • Oversees staff that collect blood and other samples to analyze them under NYCT and FTA regulations.

  • Attends department and any additional training/educational meetings as required.

  • Oversees staff that follow the procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of all tests performed

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • A High School diploma or its educational equivalent and a certificate of completion in a Medical Technology, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy training program, or a closely related field; plus, three years of full- time experience primarily performing Phlebotomy work; or

  • An associate degree (at least 16 credits) from an accredited college with a major in Medical Technology, Medical Assistant, or a closely related field of study, plus two years of experience as described above.

  • All candidates must possess a valid NYC driver's license.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience performing U.S. DOT drug and alcohol specimen collections including preparation of chain of custody forms, highly desired.

  • Experience with the navigation and use of complex medical databases Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Minimum of three years' experience in Phlebotomy, desired.

  • Must be flexible to work various tours.
