Responsibilities

  • Safely maintain and operate a wheelchair van while in compliance with all laws and requirements pertaining to the operation of the vehicle and adheres to safety rules and practices.

  • Secures all passengers in the van per Hospital Passenger Securement policy.

  • Provide door-through-door pick-up and drop-off for all customers. Map out routes to and from specified destinations, identifying the most efficient route.

  • Complete daily vehicle and equipment inspection.

  • Practices will reflect Safe Patient Handling standards. Assists individuals or maneuvers wheelchairs on and off the vehicle.

  • Documents required information per transport. Adheres to all traffic regulations. Ensures that seat belts, hook-ups, and harnesses are in working order and secure on all mobility devices as appropriate. Reports any maintenance problems in writing. Keeps vehicle interior clean.

  • Reports accidents and incidents in writing as instructed and as necessary. Performs other related duties as required. Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Customer service experience. Previous driving experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s): Current Iowa D3 Chauffeur's License - please indicate on application.

BLS (will be obtained during training). Safe Patient Handling (Will be obtained during training)

Local geographical knowledge and ability to operate GPS device.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision and assume responsibility for timely completion of assigned functions. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of a diverse professional, educational, and cultural background. Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

VIEW JOBS 11/24/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-02-22T00:00 <p>This position performs the responsibilities of a part time Driver and has the following responsibilities:</p><ul><li><p>Refugee Services Driver (RSD) drives DAS Fleet Services vehicle, or Bureau of Refugee Services (BRS) vehicle to transport eligible clients from their home, or designated locations, to scheduled appointments (e.g. medical, driver's license), places of employment, and/or community events related to resettlement social services.</p></li><li><p>RSD will be in charge of vehicle maintenance in coordination with Mobility Services Coordinator (MSC).</p></li><li><p>RSD is responsible for inspection of vehicle prior to every transport and maintenance of required records.</p></li><li><p>RSD will follow all DOT road regulations.</p></li><li><p>RSD will receive day-to-day work guidance from the MSC, but will be supervised by the Refugee Services Supervisor (RSS).</p></li><li><p>RSD will work with MSC on ridership schedules, which are created weekly or ad hoc as needed with RSD input.</p></li><li><p>RSD will keep up to date on professional training opportunities related to effective and safe driving.</p></li><li><p>RSD will participate in Mobility Services team meetings as needed.</p></li><li><p>Must possess a valid driver's license</p></li><li><p>RSD must be able to receive and make calls to clients who may have not English language ability, using an employer issues smart phone and a telephone interpreting service.</p></li><li><p>RSD must be able to work intermittently during various shifts during any give 24 hour period, including nights and weekends.</p></li><li><p>RSD must be able to handle emergency situations with or without immediate access to a supervisor.</p></li><li><p>Assure the client specific information is handled in compliance with DHS confidentiality rules</p></li></ul><p>Please include in your resume additional languages you may be able to speak, read and/or write for consideration.</p><p>The starting salary for new state employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range.</p><p>Our agency uses E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility of all newly hired employees.
