Participates in the Driver Training Program while performing the duties of a Freight Handler on a regular basis. To complete the program, Trainee must complete 80 hours behind the wheel of a Company truck and 25 hours of yard training, while being observed/trained.
Yard training includes training on pre-trip inspections, proper use of controls, hooking/unhooking, and backing. Current Company Freight Handler associates are selected for the training program based on exceptional job performance and a desire to become a Driver.
Must be 21 years of age upon completion of training. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical calculations with mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, etc.
Working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems. Detailed knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials. Ability to be available for around-the-clock trips to accommodate freight movements and must be able to be away from home for extended periods of time.
Ability to meet or exceed DOT medical standards. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a drug test and must be able to satisfactorily pass an alcohol test (if applicable). Ability to perform proper loading and unloading of freight to ensure safety and minimal risk of damage to cargo and danger to person. Must be able to perform proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to truck operations and freight movements.
Ability to represent the Company and trucking industry in a professional manner through responsible driving. Must have a satisfactory past work history.
A High School Diploma or GED is required Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with HAZMAT, Tanker, and Twin Trailer endorsements. These will be obtained upon completion of the training program.
