A driver shall possess the ability to operate a Commercial Class 8 Motor Vehicle in a manner consistent with all applicable traffic and safety regulations. He must be able to: 1) safely operate a Class 8 vehicle combination unit (Tractor-Trailer) in day-to-day interstate, intrastate and international operations; 2) provide service to customers in the loading, delivery and unloading of a variety of liquid products to and from assigned locations, and 3) perform all related duties associated with the pick-up and delivery of these liquid products.

A driver will be experienced in the operation of a Class 8 Motor Vehicle with a satisfactory, verifiable job performance and driving history.

A driver will:

  1. meet all Federal and State requirements for certification and possess a valid Class A CDL license with a hazardous materials endorsement for operation of a combination vehicle with air brakes, including a current D.O.T. medical physical meeting the requirements set forth by 49 CFR Part 392.41;

  2. have satisfactory, verifiable, previous experience and/or appropriate training in the transportation of bulk liquid products;

  3. be able to properly load and unload liquid products and perform all related duties including lifting and connecting hoses and fittings weighing up to 50 pounds, as required;

  4. be able to accurately and legibly complete all required paperwork associated with delivery of bulk liquid product including a daily record of duty status log in compliance with Federal, State and Company requirements;

  5. be able to read, write, speak, understand and apply the English language including communication by telephone for receiving assignments, directions and safety information;

  6. be able to safely and correctly operate and maneuver, including backing, a combination, Class 8 vehicle combination trailer unit under all types of circumstances inside cities, on rural highways and within any close confines of a customer's facilities;

  7. be able to perform duties requiring repeated bending and/or twisting of the waist, neck, shoulders, wrists and arms; twisting and rotating hands, elbows and forearms; kneeling, squatting and rising to a standing position; repeated gripping and grasping; and operate vehicle's foot pedals with feet

  8. be able to climb ladders, including ascending and descending, and balancing while performing physical activities in awkward positions while loading and unloading trailers;

  9. be able to enter and exit the vehicle cab repeatedly which consists of climbing one to three steps assisted by gripping and holding with the hand onto a hand rail;

  10. be able to drive for extended periods of time, up to maximum allowable times in a safe manner under a variety of highway and weather conditions, including night driving;

  11. be able to read, understand, and apply information relating to trip planning for delivery of freight products including using a road atlas, city maps, and other geographical documents, as necessary, to plan trips and deliver product in a timely manner with minimum variance using the shortest, correct, legal route;

  12. have the ability to positively communicate, respond to and interact with other company personnel, customers, and the general public in day-to-day operations in a tactful and respectful manner;

  13. be able to hook and unhook trailers as required and properly secure any valves, hatches and/or fittings;

  14. be able to appraise, evaluate, and adequately respond to situational strain and emotional stress; possess the abilities of reasoning, recall, attention, judgment, coordination and functional control;

  15. be able to withstand abrupt duty hour changes, irregular work/rest cycles, noise and vibration, temperature and weather extremes, irregular meals, and delays;

  16. be able to wear the required safety equipment including wear a respirator, supplied air respirator, or self-contained breathing apparatus while performing required duties;

  17. be able to comply with all requirements as outlined in the Driver's Manual;

  18. perform any and all other tasks assigned by management for which the employee is qualified and physically able to perform.


A. Professional Conduct:

A driver will demonstrate professional attitudes and conduct by:

  • Performing assigned duties in a professional and timely manner in the conduct of business with company personnel, customers, and the general public by adhering to and following policies and procedures in relation to:

  • appearance and attitude;

  • good communication with company personnel, customers and the general public;

  • time management and good customer relations;

  • company loyalty, pride and teamwork;

  • Courtesy to all personnel, drivers and the general public.

  • Report for duty in a rested alert condition.

  • Follow correct safety procedures.

  • Vehicle Operations and Trip Planning:

A driver will:

  • Drive and operate the vehicle in a safe, professional manner at all times according to Federal and State regulations and company policies to deliver freight without damages, losses or claims.

  • Safely and correctly operate a combination, Class 8 vehicle under all types of circumstances including, but not limited to:

  • intercity, intra-city and rural travel; and maneuvering in close confines to customer, company, and public facilities and backing into confined areas;

  • operation in all types of terrain and weather conditions;

  • hooking and unhooking required tractor/trailer combinations;

  • manually lowering and raising landing gear;

  • opening and closing trailer valves and/or hatches, as necessary;

  • climbing on and off vehicles;

  • performing maintenance duties including, but not limited to, fueling vehicles, changing fuel filters, adjusting brakes, performing thorough vehicle inspections, replacements/repairs of light bulbs, lenses, and reflectors; checking fluid levels, and installing/removing tire chains or other types of traction devices, check and maintain tire air pressure at 101 psi on drives and trailer tires and 106 psi on steer tires;

  • Operating the vehicle in an economical manner.

  • Perform vehicle inspections according to Federal, State and Company requirements and insure that all necessary corrections and/or repairs are completed as identified.

  • Maintain all equipment in a clean condition.

  • Maintain all fluid and air levels, and fuel the vehicle as required at authorized locations.

  • Drive, as necessary, for extended periods of time, up to the maximum allowable, in a safe manner under a variety of conditions, including, but not limited to:

  • abrupt duty hour changes;

  • irregular work/rest cycles;

  • temperature and weather extremes;

  • long trips without regular meals and with short notice for trip assignments and tight delivery schedules;

  • Delays en-route, other stresses and fatigue situations

  • Plan trips and routing to deliver cargo in a timely manner with minimum variance using the shortest, correct, legal route.

  • Freight Handling, Communications, and Paperwork:

A driver will:

  • properly load, unload, and secure product, including but not limited to:

  • correctly identify and verify types of products using paperwork and information on product placards;

  • accurately measure/gauge liquid products during loading and unloading;

  • properly load product in the tank trailer vehicle to meet all weight laws;

  • correctly secure all internal/external doors, hatches and/or valves to prevent damage, or losses;

  • climbing on trailers which involves balancing and physical activity in awkward positions;

  • physically handling, moving, carrying and/or lifting various types of product and product containers;

  • performing duties requiring drivers to repeatedly bend at the waist, neck, wrist, shoulders, twist and rotate hands, elbows and forearms; enter and exit tractor cab and trailer;

  • Work varying and extended hours in performance of these duties.

  • Accurately and legibly complete all paperwork associated with product loaded and delivered by being able to:

  • read and understand a variety of freight invoices, bills of lading, and other freight documents to correctly identify, measure/gauge, and deliver the correct commodities;

  • obtain all required signatures and verification to document product was picked-up and delivered as agreed upon;

  • accurately, legibly and orderly complete all related receipts and documents in a timely manner and according to company policies;

  • Complete and submit all related paperwork in a timely manner.

  • Maintain and forward to terminal a daily record of duty status log in accordance with Federal D.O.T., State, and Company requirements. Turn in your daily vehicle condition report with the paperwork for each day.

  • Provide appropriate communications with immediate supervisor or other designated company personnel on a timely, professional manner following company procedures including, but not limited to:

  • daily check calls, as required; (failure to make a check call within 3 days will result in automatic voluntary termination)

  • promptly call to report loaded/unloaded status;

  • promptly reporting of accidents, violations, claims, damages, losses, and vehicle breakdowns;

  • changes in estimated arrival/departure and available times as soon as you know you cannot meet the appointment time;

  • check-in calls when off duty;

  • changes in routing;

  • Changes in your availability to work, i.e., doctor's appointment, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires attention to detail; strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task; ability to work independently.

High School Graduate preferred; One year of driving experience required
