UPS is hiring individuals to work as temporary, seasonal Driver Helpers. This is a physical, fast-paced, outdoor position that involves continual lifting, lowering and carrying packages that typically weigh 25 - 35 lbs. and may weigh up to 70 lbs. It requires excellent customer contact skills and a lot of walking.

As a Driver Helper you will not drive the delivery vehicle but assist the driver in the delivery of packages.

Driver Helpers usually meet the UPS driver at a mutually agreed upon time and location each weekday. Workdays can vary (Monday Friday) or (Tuesday Saturday) depending on the building needs.

Hours vary but usually begin after 8:00 a.m. and end before 8:00 p.m. Driver Helpers must comply with UPS appearance guidelines.

Driver Helper seasonal opportunities are typically between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday time period.

A. Obtain permission for delivery of care. B. Perform simple health procedures taught and supervised by a primary care nurse. C. Help patient in performing procedures prescribed by appropriate professional personnel. D. Bathe patient and give personal hygiene care. E. Assist self-directing patient in taking medication, prescribed by a physician. F. Set up meals and snacks for patient and feed patient when indicated by Hospice registered nurse nurse. G. Take and record accurate vital signs as directed by Hospice registered nurse, i.e., temperature. H. Position patient in bed with proper body alignment. I. Assist patient with ambulation when appropriate. J. Maintain universal precautions. K. Perform routine errands, as directed by Hospice registered nurse and/or team manager, for the patient/family/caregiver within short distances during assigned work times. L. Provide temporary respite for family/caregiver during assigned work times by remaining in close proximity to patient to ensure safety. 2.Report changes in patient needs or condition to Hospice registered nurse or Team Manager. A. Identify and promptly report changes in patient focusing on pain and symptoms. 3.Document care provided in accordance with HCN policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, state and federal regulations. A. Keep accurate up-to–date record of patient's Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and care provided in accordance with physician's orders and plan established by nurse. B. Submit records in accordance with agency guidelines. C. Documentation is accurate, complete and legible. 4.Perform a variety of light housekeeping tasks essential to patient's health care. A. Keep patient's area (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen) neat and clean. B. Care for patient's clothing and linens. 5.Perform routine first aid for the patient in case of emergency. A. Make sure environment is calm and controlled. B. Follows basic first aid guidelines. C. Contact Hospice office and/or emergency services depending upon severity of incident. 6.Accompany the patient to and from the doctor's office during assigned work time, when necessary and possible (someone other than the home health aide must drive). A. Inform Hospice registered nurse and/or team manager of doctor's office location. 7.Communicate effectively with patient/family/caregiver and members of the interdisciplinary group. A. Provide clear, direct, and timely verbal and/or written information regarding patient's condition and family concerns. 8.Meet ongoing educational requirements. A. Attend mandatory 12 hours of annual in-services. B. Attend continuing educational seminars when appropriate. C. Attend Home Health Aide support group provided by Hospice Care Network. 9.Perform job functions in a fiscally responsible manner consistent with the agency's mission and vision. A. Utilize sound time management skills in planning day-to-day activities and fulfilling job duties. Report to assigned Hospice office to await reassignment when patient no longer requires services. B. Demonstrate appropriate and efficient use of supplies and equipment. C. Consistently meets the productivity standard established by the agency. Participate in on call rotation as appropriate. 10.Demonstrates and promotes respect for patients rights. A. Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with the Patient's Bill of Rights and the Patient Self Determination Act. B. Maintains patient confidentiality C. Assists in making reasonable accommodations for special groups, i.e., hearing, visually, physically, and/or mentally impaired. 11.Incorporates HCN's commitment to customer service and Continuous Quality Improvement into daily work habits. A. Courteous and considerate in person and on the telephone. B. Promotes positive co-worker relationships, team work and cooperation both within the department and across departmental lines. C. Participates in performance improvement data collection and Continuous Quality Improvement projects, as assigned, and takes individual responsibility. 12.Adheres to general policies and procedures of the organization/department including: A. Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethical Conduct. B. Emergency /disaster preparedness protocols. C. Fire/Safety prevention protocols. D. Departmental in-service education program requirements. E. Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc.) F. Quality improvement activities. G. Job related self-development education activities. H. Infection control practices and procedures. I. Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements. Qualifications * Certification by New York State Health Department approved Home Health Aide Training Program, required. * Minimum of one (1) year experience in home care and/or nursing home setting, required.
