With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.
Responsibilities for the Driver / Equipment Operator II include but are not limited to:
Transports visitors, state employees, officials, patients, supplies and materials both in and around the state. Maintains records of vehicles used including the entry of daily information on vehicle trip logs.
Maintains and submits fuel card purchase receipts.
Operates radio and maintains communications with dispatch office on a continual basis.
Responsible for the cleanliness and safe operations of vehicles which includes the performance of pre-trip incidental inspections of assigned vehicles.
Performs dispatch duties, which includes receiving trip requests via phone, email or fax, ad records trip information. Assists other drivers/Equipment Operators as needed.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:
Experience in the operation or maintenance of heavy equipment, motorized vehicles or machinery that is directly related to the area of employment.
Agency Minimum Requirements:
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Possess a valid S.C. drivers license. One (1) year of driving experience without a moving violation. Must not have two or more motor vehicle accidents/incidents, regardless of fault, as the operator of a vehicle in the past 3 years.

Additional Comments
Must be able to safely operate a variety of vehicles including, sedans, vans, and mini buses. Must be able to read maps and understand written road directions. These positions are considered essential personnel, and must be willing to work in a stand-by or on-call emergency basis as needed during nights, weekends, holidays and during periods of inclement weather. Must have considerable knowledge of safe driving practices according to S.C. highway laws and regulations. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, kneel, and climb steps unassisted in order to perform duties. Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
