Execute technical project plans predominantly relating to downhole drilling tools including modeling BHA and drilling dynamics by characterizing drilling dysfunction, support and/or execute field tests, validate and compile field test data for the Innovation team, internal SMEs, engineers, and management. Conduct ongoing drilling technology assessments utilizing PXD's internal innovation tools, methodology, and processes.
40% Execute approved technical project plans. Deliver complex projects in a simple, effective, and efficient manner. Quantify and deliver project status and/or results to support management decisions for achieving value for the Company.
20% Create field testing protocols with accurate data collection to ensure high quality of delivered projects with measurable results.
20% Identify and evaluate value added ideas in drilling by providing technical analysis, economic analysis, and compilation of quantitative technical data.
10% Conduct ongoing drilling technology assessments utilizing PXD's internal innovation tools, methodology, and process.
10% Support Innovation goals company wide
Works with internal engineers, managers, and technicians.
Works with external suppliers, R&D partners, universities and other organizations.
Works with field drilling engineers, field supervisors, foreman
BS Engineering degree required
Minimum 3 years required in drilling engineering role with experience in BHA modeling, experience analyzing high frequency downhole operational data strongly preferred.
Expert proficiency in engineering experimental design (DOE); BHA modeling (Drillscan, Landmark Wellplan, K&M ERA); engineering experimental data modeling, query, and analysis (ie. Spotfire, Matlab, SQL query language).
Experience with technical project management identifying key stakeholders and problem statement to create the project scope, budget, & timeline. Executing project plans and tracking actuals against the plan to ensure timely delivery of results within budget.
Strong communication & interpersonal skills required to execute project plans. Must work effectively with members across multiple departments (i.e. drilling, geology, IT, legal, data management, etc.) and across multiple levels of the organization (engineers, analysts, field superintendents, managers, etc.)
Strong presentation skills highly encouraged, will present project proposals, status updates, and closing reports to executive steering committee regularly.
Ability to use drilling engineering skills and experience to identify technical projects that add value, while performing daily job functions with limited supervision.
Identify value added ideas, demonstrating unique approaches to problem solving; providing direction and support to all asset teams in the drilling engineering disciplines, with limited supervision.
Capable of solving routine and challenging problems quickly.
Perform daily job responsibilities with limited direction. Expected to seek out, collaborate, and utilize subject matter expertise internal and external to Pioneer as required.
Ability to work on multiple projects at once and support internal SMEs, field personnel, and managers as required.
Development efforts should involve performing engineering tasks in many different applications/environments and applying advanced engineering skills to quickly assess value added technologies. Training efforts should focus on intermediate to advanced technical, communication, project management, and leadership skills.
