Plan and perform various calculations for drilling projects. Interface with clients, sales and operations personnel.

This position will cover the basic aspects of drilling engineering as related to the drilling of both straight and deviated wells. The individual will be responsible for achieving competency in all fundamental drilling analysis calculations in addition to being able to interpret their results.


Gain proficiency in well planning using industry standard software.

Attend training classes to become proficient in torque/drag analysis, hydraulics calculations, vibration analysis. Attend classes on drill string and BHA component design, performance and operation.

Collect data and perform torque/drag, hydraulics and vibration analysis calculations.

Attend sales and operations meetings to develop client interface skills.

Develop understanding of drill string design, for different well profiles, based on torque/drag and vibration analysis results.

Interface with Well Planners to assure optimum well plan results.

Attend pre and post well meetings with clients, as required.

Gain knowledge in analysis of existing data to develop new drilling procedures.

Understand and comply with all Weatherford company policies, procedures and safety regulations.

Compile end of well reports and evaluate results to identify areas where performance may be improved.

Strive to gain experience in all well types and all drilling situations.

Perform all assignments, in a timely and accurate fashion, as directed by immediate supervisor.



BS degree in Engineering (or BS degree plus equivalent work experience)

Intermediate level computer skills

Proficient verbal and written skills

Ability to work closely with customers and fellow employees

Multi-tasking ability

Knowledge of oilfield drilling practices

The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations

Operate Newpark proprietary fluid systems safely with proficiency and control the fluid within defined specifications. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair drilling fluid situations. Recognize drilling problems and propose solutions. 2. Interface with rig contractor, operator and other service companies to improve efficiencies in drilling operations. Represent the Company and the Operator's best interests through accurate, professional, effective, in-depth interaction with pertinent personnel by demonstrating current industry level of expertise. 3. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Company drilling fluids products. 4. Perform complete, accurate and timely well-site analysis of all drilling fluids parameters required by the Company and/or Operator. 5. Responsible for advising the operator to resolve any problems which occur at the drilling site and remaining onsite until the problem is resolved, e.g. lost circulation, gas kicks, chemical contamination. 6. Diagnose issues related to solids control equipment such as centrifuge operations, correct base fluid additions, screen size and how to utilize equipment to save costs. Assist in the efficient operation of the solids control equipment. 7. Mentor and train Drilling Fluids Specialists - I. Provide direction and technical guidance to liquid mud facility personnel (testing, supervision, inspection of vessels, etc.) 8. Advise all rig personnel on the safe handling of company's products and supply information on toxicity of drilling fluid products. Lead safety meetings. 9. Order, maintain and return accurate stocks of drilling fluids products. Reconcile drilling fluids product usage with warehouse supplies. Develop contingency plans if needed to correct inventory shortages. 10. Generate and maintain accurate and timely drilling fluid reports and records using Company applications and software, e.g. Mud Reports, final well summary, daily drilling fluid report., Materials Concentration Forms, Drilling Fluids Recaps. 11. Ensure well is ready for billing at rig release, e.g. reconciling inventory, ensuring tickets completed, signed and submitted. 12. Other duties and projects as assigned.Education & Experience RequirementsHigh School Diploma or educational equivalent. 1 year experience. Basic knowledge of drilling fluids operations and relationships to drilling fluids properties. Basic understanding of down hole tools and functional relationship to fluid properties and products. Basic knowledge of solids control equipment, screens and fluid relationships to Drilling Waste Management processes. Able to complete reports using applicable software applications. Functional computer skills, Basic knowledge of cost and inventory accounting and logistics management.
