What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Support Dispatcher in their duties of dispatching trucks to meet customer requirements

  • Make appointments for pickup and delivery, and update systems

  • Keep track of empty container availability

  • Forward Proof of Delivery on appropriate web-billed accounts

  • Monitor import container releases from the pier and rail to prevent demurrage

  • Monitor and answer daily emails

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 1 year of relevant experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

It'd be great if you also have:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 1 year of transportation experience

  • Excellent analytical, communication and time management skills

VIEW JOBS 7/3/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-10-01T00:00 Summary: The Operations Manager III will provide the leadership and direction for the Yard, Maintenance & Repair, and Container Freight Station for the Terminal. A key role is to ensure the highest productivity in the container terminal and to provide excellent customer service to the lines calling at the port. Essential Duties: * Provides the operating direction for the Terminal, ensuring that productivity, safety, and efficiency standards are met; * Directs activities of Container Terminal staff engaged in yard operations, Maintenance & Repair, and Container Freight Station; * Assists Site Manager, Operations in setting goals and objectives for the Container Terminal; * Guides subordinates in resolving obstacles so that goals can be met; * Directs the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly statistics for productivity and other operational and financial reports; * Analyzes performance statistics and trends in order to identify areas for improvement; * Ensures good communications between the Port Authority and CT to minimize equipment downtime; * Ensures good communications throughout workgroup and their group interactions so that activities are running smoothly on a regular basis; * Ensures work groups hold regular meetings with their staffs; * Distributes information memorandums on current issues; * Practices management "by walking around" to observe and obtain feedback about conditions, issues, and general environment; * Manages the Container Terminal budget; * Monitors overtime costs; Monitors general expenditures. * Participates in financial reviews; Identifies areas of cost reduction, when feasible; * Provides reliable service to customers, ensuring vessels sail on schedule regularly; * Monitors productivity levels to ensure efficient operations; * Ensures appropriate manpower is available to provide adequate staffing in order to operate all departments effectively; * Ensures procedures are in place to correct service failures in all departments assigned; * Ensures safety, health and environmental standards are met throughout the operation; * Ensures regular safety meetings are conducted at various levels of the operations group; * Ensures all accidents/injuries are investigated thoroughly and reviews them with the management team; * Ensures safety regulations are followed; works closely with Safety Manager to ensure safety compliance; * Works closely with the Site Manager, Human Resources or designate to obtain clarification, direction, and consultation regarding employment and labor law, company policy and procedures, and consistent application; * Ensures Container Terminal staff is familiar with company policies, employment and labor law, collective bargaining agreements and the procedures for implementing and maintaining consistent applications; * Reviews discipline within the work group to ensure fairness and consistency, and meeting the test of reasonableness; * Resolves labor grievances or disputes at the terminal level; * Other duties as assigned. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Requirements: * Four (4) year college degree in operations management, logistics management, or related discipline. Industry relevant work experience may be substituted for college degree. * Requires at least seven (7) to ten (10) years of terminal operations experience within the logistics/transportation industry in a managerial capacity, with significant labor relations experience. * Level 4 (Supervisory Staff, Frontline Manager) / See Leadership Competency Standards * Must have extensive knowledge of terminal operations practices and principles; * Must have a working knowledge of managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other management team members and lead a department of technically proficient individuals; * Must have familiarity with all aspects of the systems support for the terminal, including software applications, equipment, and work flow; * Must have extensive knowledge of safety, health and environmental issues as they affect the workplace, including local regulations, national requirements, and governmental agency requirements. Must be familiar with maritime codes; * Must have working knowledge of federal and state employment and labor law, company policies and procedures, and general work rules and standard operating procedures for the terminal; * Must have working knowledge of budget preparation and financial applications. This includes an understanding of basic accounting, statistics, problem solving, goal setting, and business applications. * Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills. * Must have demonstrated negotiation skills. * Must be able to exercise sound business judgment in order to set direction and establish priorities. * Requires excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work. * Requires advanced level verbal and written communications skills in English, in addition to effective interpersonal skills. * Requires excellent analytical skills, including the ability to extract and analyze data. * Requires exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment. * Must be able to make effective presentations. * Must be able to exercise discretion and good judgment, with an ability to understand the effect of decisions overall in the company. * Must be able to handle company information with confidentiality and discretion.
