WHAT YOU'LL DO

Pattern, fit, alter, tailor, and construct costumes in accordance with interpretation of Costume Designer's renderings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three (3) years experience pattern-making, draping, and tailoring for a professional costume shop.

  • Excellent knowledge of costume history and clothing construction.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Team player with flexibility and a good attitude is a must.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research costume and fashion history pertinent to assigned projects

  • Interpret designs and collaborate with designers

  • Estimate time and materials required to construct or alter assigned garments as designed and in accordance with production schedule

  • Formulate and implement construction plan and schedule for assigned projects

  • Create patterns as required to facilitate construction of garments as designed

  • Cut and sew garments

  • Fit costumes on actors and make necessary adjustments in consultation with Costume Designer

  • Delegate tasks to and supervise team members, track progress, and adjust construction plan accordingly

  • Communicate progress and potential challenges to department management

  • Report issues with equipment requiring maintenance

  • Assist wardrobe staff with major repairs or advise on repair process during the run of a production

  • Other duties as assigned by the Costume Director.
