The Transportation Safety Manager provides hands-on leadership to the site management team specific to DOT regulations and requirements. Responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of DOT safety programs and objectives.
Responsible for assuring that training on identified topics has been completed within regulatory and internal standards. Monitors federal and state DOT regulations and provides technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance.
Ability to work closely with staff in operations, management, human resources, purchasing, production, and maintenance. Provide information and technical DOT safety support to personnel.
Prepare written programs and policies for DOT documentation and compliance. Identifies company DOT training needs and develops a training plan. Assist the local management team developing goals to effectively reduce transportation risk and loss.
Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of DOT programming. Perform periodic audits on a regular basis to evaluate facility compliance with DOT regulations and Transportation safety performance. Effective implementation of Corrective Actions to assure that non-compliance issues are corrected, and transportation incidents are not repeated.
Assists and supports plant leadership to implement engineering controls to minimize safety hazards. Aids plant personnel in selection of appropriate transport equipment. Understands federal and state DOT regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
Provides technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable DOT regulations. Reviews periodic plant driver meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up, as necessary. Provide incident investigation of all vehicle accidents with reports and follows up as necessary.

This position has one or more direct reports and serves as a coach and mentor for all other positions.
Frequently operates in a professional office environment. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and laminators.
While performing some duties, there may be some exposure to fumes and/or airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the production environments can be loud and require hearing protection.
Regularly required to talk and/or hear. Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work is required as needed.
Travel is primarily local and between locations. Schedules are flexible and will be based on a demand and needs assessments of different locations. Travel will be limited to North America.
