The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Dosimetrist with a hire date of June 2024.

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community.

UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

The Dosimetrist works closely with medical physicists and radiation oncologists to develop the best treatment plan for cancer patients by determining the level of energy needed in linear accelerators to shrink and eliminate tumors.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Designs a treatment plan with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose. Identifies and contours normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets.

Creates and transfers reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery. Performs simulations and tumor localization using specified imaging devices.

Plans and implements the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.

Plans and implements the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices. Communicates and advises the radiation oncology team regarding treatment plan implementation, including the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters. Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, documents all pertinent information in the patient record, and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations. Operates and performs quality assurance on the treatment planning computer(s). Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Associate Degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
