Overview

The Macalester Fund-the college's innovative and mission-driven annual giving team-seeks a skilled communicator and strong relationship manager to execute high-volume, highly personalized digital engagement and fundraising. This role creates meaningful connections with potential donors and achieves leadership annual giving goals. Using a variety of channels (email, social, video conferencing, phone, in-person visits) and an AI fundraising enablement platform, the Donor Experience Officer cultivates an assigned portfolio of donors by providing outreach, information, and invitations that increase engagement with Macalester, solicits them for annual gifts, and reports back to show the impact of giving. The successful candidate will play a critical role in cultivating and growing a pipeline of new donors for our upcoming campaign and drive increasing rates of annual giving. This role will have clearly defined goals related to activity, engagement, and fundraising outcomes.

Responsibilities

Portfolio management

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 1,000 prospective donors. Cultivate relationships with these donors via email, phone, social media, video conferencing, texting, and our AI fundraising enablement platform.

  • Develop and execute touchpoint cadences to ensure consistent and relevant donor communication across portfolio. Articulate a strong and compelling case for supporting Macalester.

  • Solicit donors to make leadership annual gifts ($1,600+) to the Macalester Fund, including to special initiatives like Give to Macalester Days, the Grand Society Challenge, and the upcoming campaign.

  • Demonstrate to donors the impact of their giving. Provide information on college news and programs relevant to their interests. Share upcoming opportunities to attend events, volunteer, or otherwise deepen their engagement with the college.

  • Identify when an annual donor expresses major gift potential and refer them to development colleagues for continued cultivation and solicitation.

Collaboration and communication

  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the Macalester Fund, Engagement, Development, Communications & Marketing, and Advancement Operations teams.

  • Develop and maintain broad knowledge of the college's functions and new initiatives, such as those happening in admissions, athletics, academics, student life, and institutional equity.

  • Build out a resource hub of content to share with donors, including information relevant to a wide variety of interests. Become fluent in the "menu" of engagement and giving opportunities across the college to inform conversations and solicitations.

  • Engage in and promote Macalester's culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status, or orientation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 1-3 years of experience in direct sales, fundraising, marketing, or volunteer management, and comfort with providing excellent customer service to diverse constituents.

  • Ability to analyze trends in engagement and philanthropy, and make recommendations about how to improve constituent experiences and engagement through that analysis.

  • Experience with email, social media, google, etc. Familiarity with Slate for Advancement or similar CRMs like Raiser's Edge or Banner Advance. Ability to use multiple cloud-based platforms simultaneously.

  • Ability to build strong professional relationships across mediums, including phone, text, and video conferencing.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.

  • Handle confidential material responsibly.

  • Conduct interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully, and empathetically, including the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be $54,000-$58,000 depending on experience.
