Position Title: Donor Engagement and Events Director

Location: Portland, Oregon

Department: Development

Reports to: Executive Director

Position Status: Full Time, Ongoing, Hybrid (80% Remote, 20% In-Person)

Position Compensation

$70,000-80,000 per year (depending on experience) with generous and progressive benefits, including medical and dental care, 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off; technology reimbursement; 4 hours personal time off/week, $300 annual FSA contribution, 2.5% 401K contribution after 6 months.

Position Description

Unite Oregon is seeking a Donor Engagement and Events Director with 3 - 5 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, direct donor engagement, cultivating relationships with funders, events coordination, board engagement, and/or development. The Director will be in charge of fundraising events, such as our annual gala, cultivating relationships with major donors, funders, and sponsors, networking outside of the organization, researching and prospecting, board engagement and fundraising, and overseeing internal systems for tracking donations, sponsorships, and development goals. The candidate will work closely with the executive team and development team.

Fundraising and Donor Engagement:

  • Lead management of major donor relationships, including cultivation, prospecting, and securing new major donors.

  • Lead sponsorship prospecting, research, acquisition, and cultivation of sponsorship relationships.

  • Research and foster relationships with national funders and secure new national funding sources.

  • Collaborate with chapter directors to plan local fundraising events.

  • Lead Board fundraising efforts and engagement.

  • Work closely with the Donor Engagement Manager on donor stewardship, data management, and communications.

  • Work with the Development Team to meet fundraising and strategic plan goals.

Events Management:

  • Lead fundraising events, such as the annual gala, donor appreciation events, etc.

  • Collaborate with chapter directors to plan local fundraising events.

  • Oversee/manage fundraising events.

Relationship Cultivation and Networking:

  • Cultivate relationships with major and national donors/funders.

  • Secure sponsorships and maintain relationships with sponsors.

Communication and Writing:

  • Strong writing skills for donor communications, grant applications, etc.

  • Good customer service and communication skills; ability to interact with donors,

  • Board members, businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and other constituents in person, by phone, and in writing.

Administrative and Organizational:

  • Ensure internal systems for tracking donations and sponsorships are in place and functioning effectively.

  • Highly organized, with serious attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and takes initiative.

  • Strong teamwork skills (interpersonal skills, accountability, etc.).

  • Work with the Development Team to meet fundraising and strategic plan goals.

Supervisory Duties

  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and direct supervision of staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Organize and manage the work and schedules of one to five staff to support team operations.

  • Conduct frequent supervisory check-ins.

  • Oversee HR functions and compliance, including hiring and performance reviews and evaluation, and collaborate to address and resolve all employee concerns in a timely manner.

  • Provide support, problem solve, ensure accountability towards advancing and meeting team goals.

  • Manage and oversee grant budgets.

  • Responsible for discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
