Position Description:

Location: 502 Building

The Donation Support Coordinator (DSC) is a critical position which requires the ability to think critically and quickly determine best course of action in the highly dynamic organ donation process. The role encompasses the allocation of organs, their surgical recovery, perfusion, packaging and transportation.

The DSC will be trained to perform assigned role responsibilities. The DSC will receive organ import offers from outside agencies and communicate those offers with the appropriate local transplant surgeon utilizing pathways and relying on their extensive training when a situation presents itself and it is not covered by protocol or pathway. If an organ is accepted, the DSC coordinates the travel arrangements related to recovery and transport.

The DSC will participate in abdominal organ allocation for local LoH donors which will require this individual to have excellent communication skill and judgement. The DSC will perform intra-operative sterile packaging, in-situ perfusion, identification of renal anatomy and other recovery duties as determined. DSC will also be responsible for placing and removing local and imported kidneys on the renal perfusion machines and monitor the perfusion of kidneys, troubleshooting specific technical difficulties should they arise.

DSCs are required to complete all documentation accurately and promptly. The DSC is expected to comply with all LoH standard operating procedures (SOPs), local, state, and federal requirements as applicable. The DSC will take 10-13 days of 24-hour call shifts per month.

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Vocational certificate or degree in Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technologist or biological sciences degree required.

Should be licensed or certified within their field of practice as applicable. Previous surgical or medical experience in organ or tissue donation industry may substitute for education requirement.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree, CPTC, or CPT certification, prior experience at an organ procurement organization

Required: Valid driver's license and ability to be insured.
