Donation Site Attendant

Summary:

Join the Savers family as an Attendant for one of our Donation Sites. The Attendant provides our donors with excellent service to help encourage repeat donations and an increased donor base through positive word of mouth.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Promptly opens the Donation Site each assigned day and prepares site for that day's business

  • Cheerfully greets donors upon their arrival

  • Assists donors by transferring their donations from their vehicle in to the Donation Site.

  • Provides donation tax receipt to donors

  • Explains charity mission to donors, as requested

  • Weighs all donations by type and enters donor and product weight into Donation Log

  • Maintains Donation Site in a clean and safe condition to include the interior, the exterior grounds and parking lot and especially, the Donor Service Point

  • Assists collections driver unloading Donation Site while maintaining a priority on donor service

  • If trained and cleared, Attendants may also be asked to physically drive our trucks

  • Inventories and orders all necessary supplies

  • Communicates to Area Manager daily donor counts, product weights and any conditions at the site requiring attention necessary to meet donor service standards, safety concerns or site cleanliness.

  • Secures Donation Site at the end of the business day and calls the Area Manager to acknowledge closing of the location.

  • Immediately notify supervisor of any site visitor inquiring about our business (i.e., gov, fire, LL, solicitations etc.)

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Customer Service oriented with cheerful personality

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Basic math skills

  • Attention to cleanliness, organization and detail

  • Able to lift 75 lbs repeatedly throughout the day

  • Honesty and integrity

  • Reliable transportation and commitment to attendance and punctuality

  • Willing and able to work weekend days as a regular part the position schedule

  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision

  • Satisfactorily pass physical and background exams

Minimum Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • Experience in customer service

  • Employment background demonstrating experience in working with minimal supervision

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Cell phone and / or laptop for data entry

  • Cell phone to communicate to supervisor

  • Scale to measure product weights

  • Material handling equipment (OK carts) for storing and loading product

  • Use all company supplied safety equipment as defined in the operating and safety manuals

  • DOT Box Truck

Our mission is to<strong><i> inspire and connect the North Central MA community to create equitable access to healthy food and environmental sustainability through education, collaboration and advocacy</i></strong>.</p><p>With some of the highest chronic disease rates in the state, Growing Places seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of residents by addressing the social determinants of health and connecting our local food system. Managing more than 300 raised-bed community gardens and multiple farmers markets that foster equity and inclusion primary programs include: Community Teaching Gardens; Seed to Community volunteer produce donations to local food assistance programs; youth education during and after the bells; farmers market management; a mobile farmers market; Learn and Grow workshops and Greening the Gateway Cities tree planting. </p><p>Growing Places is looking for a part-time seasonal Farmers Market Coordinator to plan and implement our farmers markets (Fitchburg, Leominster, Mount Wachusett Community College and Heywood Hospital) and mobile farmers market (small trailer attached to full-size pick-up truck) focused in North Central MA’s food desert communities (Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster and Winchendon).</p> <p>Duties include:</p> <p>Farmers and Mobile Markets</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for ensuring that Growing Places’ farmers markets and mobile market display a high level of quality, consistency and cultural competency for community members</li> <li>Coordinate market logistics on and off site (vendors, schedules, signage, applications, payment)</li> <li>Liaise with appropriate city departments to ensure all permits and policies are in order </li> <li>Enforce market policies and guidelines with vendors, conduct farm tours and other activities to facilitate market transparency</li> <li>Manage Growing Places’ farmers market stand and mobile market on market days according to market policies and guidelines</li> <li>Coordinate nutrition benefits program acceptance (SNAP/HIP, WIC and Senior Farmers Market Coupons) at all markets and with vendors</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Manage volunteers to support markets and vendors</li> </ul> <p>Education and Awareness</p> <ul> <li>Work with Growing Places Development Manager to promote markets via website, social media, traditional print and partners</li> <li>Promote nutrition benefits program acceptance at markets to reach target populations</li> <li>Work with Growing Places Development Manager and collaborate with community partners to host activities / events and increase market participation</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Identify and integrate additional community resources and cooking demos to enhance the markets experience and mobile market as needed</li> <li>Disseminate information at markets (nutrition, health, nutrition benefits, recipes, sustainability) aligned with Growing Places’ mission</li> <li>Ensure safety standards are upheld at all times; participate in ServSafe Certification</li> <li>Implement data tracking measures at markets according to Growing Places’ and funders’ policies and guidelines</li> <li>Create reports for bookkeeper and evaluation / program reporting</li> <li>Conduct market surveys with customers </li> </ul> <p>Transportation and Distribution</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate with Growing Places staff to inventory produce and place orders with local producers and distributers</li> <li>Coordinate produce pick-up from local producers and distributors based on orders</li> <li>Distribute CSA Meal Kits through the mobile market</li> </ul> <p>Data and Reporting</p> <p>Other duties as assigned</p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>Bi-lingual Spanish/English given first preference</li> <li>Requires lifting of up to 50 pounds</li> <li>Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills</li> <li>Passion for promoting and supporting the local food system</li> <li>Basic knowledge of ordering, receiving and selling local food</li> <li>Familiarity with and ability to navigate North Central MA </li> <li>Massachusetts Driver’s License </li> <li>ServSafe Certification a plus</li> </ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p>$14/hour at average of 20 to 25 hours per week during growing season; potential for hours during non-growing season.
