Zurich is currently looking for an Underwriting Intern in our Domestic Casualty unit to work out of our Atlanta, GA, office during the Summer of 2020. This is an exciting opportunity to work in Commercial Insurance!
The Underwriting Intern will work under immediate supervision and will perform requested tasks alongside professionals who perform these roles. Generally, this position is part of a program with an assigned mentor. As a Zurich Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain career-building experience with an industry-leading global insurance company.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Shadowing underwriters to see the execution of large casualty underwriting on both new and renewal business.
Observation and implementation of the underwriting lifecycle in action and learn the application of fundamental underwriting techniques (loss run analysis, working layer selection, application of terms & conditions, pricing and selection of program structure, etc.).
Assisting with pipelining via Underwriting Desktop and uncovering opportunities from Marsh MarketConnect, Aon GRIP and various pipelining spreadsheets from the market.
Assisting with stewardship and renewal strategy meeting preparation.
Assisting with the organization of broker visits and invites for any events held by the Atlanta large domestic team.
Additional Development Opportunities Include:
Intern will gain an appreciation for the various program structures that large casualty has access to.
Trading spaces with broker interns and obtaining insight into the broker's day-to-day processes.
Currently enrolled in a college or university program and will be enrolled in the upcoming Fall Semester
Two or more years of college coursework (should be a rising Junior or Senior) OR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and no prior experience required in the administrative area
Minimum cumulative GPA average of 3.0 (current GPA reported by your school)
Be legally eligible to work in the United States indefinitely
Microsoft Office experience
Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in Risk Management and Insurance
Demonstrates problem solving skills in a customer focused environment
Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint experience
Self-motivated and able to work independently
