Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Accountant to work at Western Illinois Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and analytical skills allowing them to review financial statements, identify errors, and make corrections accordingly. They would be proficient in financial practices to perform critical accounting tasks allowing them to maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with state policies and procedures. Job Responsibilities
1.Posts and maintains detailed accounting books and subsidiary journals and ledgers for all locally held funds.
2.Maintains automated inventory control and reconciliations for Employee and Individual Commissary.
3.Maintains Property Control System and inputs changes.
4.Provides guidance for input and auditing of fiscal documents to automated asset control systems for commodities, property, trust fund, and budgetary accounting.
5.Audits internal fiscal procedures.
6.Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualification
1.Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
1.Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working in accounting theory, principles, methods, and procedures.
2.Prefers at least one (1) year of experience applying auditing principles, methods, and procedures.
3.Prefers at least one (1) year of experience posting, maintaining, and reconciling ledger balances.
4.Prefers at least one (1) year of experience resolving accounting discrepancies.
5.Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office Software Applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel, or similar software.
6.Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in inventory control.
7.Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with the State Financial System or similar software.
Conditions of Employment
1.Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
2.Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
