A patient companion, also known as a hospital companion or sitter, provides extra support to patients who are elderly, disabled, or need compassionate supervision during their hospital stay. Their main responsibility is to ensure the patient's safety, while also meeting routine care needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide companionship and support as assigned, following all Cayuga Medical Center guidelines.

  • Respect patient privacy and dignity by introducing yourself by name and position and addressing patients appropriately.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality, discussing patient information only with authorized individuals.

  • Display professional behavior at all times, treating everyone with courtesy and maintaining a suitable appearance, including wearing a name badge.

  • Communicate effectively with the nursing staff, obtaining verbal instructions regarding diagnosis, patient care needs, and special considerations.

  • Position yourself in the patient's room according to the care plan and never leave the patient alone unless instructed by the nurse.

  • Follow nurse's instructions for safe ambulation and redirection of the patient, including permissible locations outside the patient room.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent experience

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience in a hospital setting

Location and Shift Requirements:

  • Onsite at our Main Campus

  • Per Diem - As Scheduled

Pay Range Disclosure:

  • $16.00 to $17.00 per hour
