Description of Job

Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provides services used by nearly every citizen of the State. Colorado citizens utilize identification, driver, and vehicle services at State and County offices to obtain identification cards, driver licenses, vehicle registrations, titles, and other related services. Additionally, the DMV licenses and provides oversight of private businesses and government organizations that provide driver and emission testing services. Finally, the division works closely with other state agencies and programs to provide information and education to serve the public and encourage voluntary compliance.

We're hiring a flexible and customer service oriented individual to become one of our DMV Generalists! You will learn the duties of each work group within the DMV-Driver Control unit and use your knowledge to assist where there is need. Duties:

The DMV Generalist - Technician I Trainee position may be utilized in the Driver License Section and elsewhere within the DMV to include but may not be limited to the Driver Control Section and Vehicle Services Section as business needs dictate. This position will be considered "in training" for the first year in order to learn DMV functions and complete required training.

The purpose of this position is to provide flexibility to the different DMV work units by assignment and/or mobility of a Technician I to areas of operation experiencing workload needs. The final candidate(s) will be required to work in various locations including Driver License Offices, back office locations, and/or telework. This position will be required to develop and maintain knowledge from these multiple sections of business for varying assignments such as but not limited to:

  • customer service,

  • driver license issuance,

  • call center customer service representative,

  • data entry,

  • record analysis and retrieval,

  • vehicle title and registration,

  • International Registration Plan Registration,

  • cash handling,

  • back office and mailing operations,

  • system development scoping/ testing,

  • and other duties as needed and determined by the business.

This position may require temporary daily assignment to an office in the Denver Metro area for training.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Residency Requirement:

This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application. Class Code & Classification Description:

Technician I (H4M1IX)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the qualifications:

OPTION 1:

  • One (1) year of professional work experience in a high volume customer service role.

OR:

OPTION 2:

  • College or university coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Management, Information Technology, or similar field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • State experience working in a complex, high volume regulatory workplace

  • Career progression in a general clerical and/or customer service call center position

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Organized time management skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Experience working on a team

Driver License Systems Fundamentals (DLF Certification) :

Newly hired (or transferred) DMV Generalist Technician Trainees are designated "in training" for the first year in this position.

DMV Generalist Technician I Trainees receive Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training and regular DLF skills evaluations. Before completing one year in this position, DMV Generalist Technician Trainee employees may be required to complete DLF certification.

  • Failure to achieve DLF Certification and pass all required trainings for this position may result in removal from position and possible termination of employment.

Conditions of Employment with the CDOR:

Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.

As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.
