POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION

?Job Title: Division Head

Reports To: Building Principal Director of Curriculum, Assessment, and Program Evaluation

Category: Exempt, 200 days Range: Level 6

Summary:
The Division Head provides instructional leadership and enhances articulation regarding curriculum alignment with standards, the development and implementation of common assessments, and the use of effective instructional strategies that will most appropriately meet the needs of students. The duties of the Division Head are critical to the overall educational program of the school and require effective and ongoing communication and collaboration with staff and administration.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required

  • Master's Degree

  • Illinois Professional Educator License with administrativeendorsement

  • Qualified Teacher Evaluator

  • Minimum of five years teaching experience at the high school level

  • Minimum three years administrative experience

  • Experience managing a budget

  • Evidence of success in the following:

Excellent communication skills

o Strong Excel and related technology skills

o Creating a positive, open, enthusiastic, and organized environment

o Ability to work with internal and external leaders

o Sensitivity in working with a diverse school and community

o Proactively identifying, collecting, organizing, and analyzing data needed to make decisions related to supplemental programs and supports

Essential Job Functions:

Instructional Program

  • Implements and directs the instructional improvement within the division

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Supports the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of curriculum

  • Leads textbook adoption process

  • Coordinates articulation efforts with foundation schools in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Academics & Family Services

  • Collects, organizes, and interprets data from standardized testing and local assessments to inform improvement efforts

  • Monitors the curriculum that is being taught in the classrooms

  • Attends Curriculum Council and/or other meetings as directed by Director of Curriculum, Assessment, and Program Evaluation

  • Participates in Board of Education meetings related to curriculum and instruction as needed Curriculum, Assessment, and Program Evaluation

  • Participates in Board of Education meetings related to curriculum and instruction as needed

Instruction

  • Regularly observes classroom practice, and coaches teachers in effective instructional practices

  • Assists teachers in methodology, technique, materials, or any other function needed to enhance their ability to be successful

  • Works collaboratively with the instructional coaches and academic interventionists to provide support to teachers in efforts to improve student outcomes Supervision

  • Assists in the interview, selection, and assignment of certified and non-certified staff

  • Evaluates faculty within the division per the Evaluation Plan

  • Organizes and conducts staff development activities.

  • Oversees all department meetings within the division

  • Represents the departments' interests at the Instructional Leadership Team

  • Communicates school priorities and action plans to departments and provide implementation support

  • Makes recommendations for the master schedule Budget

  • Prepares and submits all departmental budgets within the division

  • Monitors departmental spending plan

  • Oversees inventory of all departmental equipment and supplies

  • Reviews requests for new equipment, instructional materials, and supplies for the division. Submits eligible requests following district procedures and places orders per purchasing protocols School and Community Relations

  • Processes all inquiries about departmental activities

  • Confers with parents, teachers, and students as necessary

  • Coordinates and participates in special programs involving community and other agencies and resources (i.e. open house, parents' night, special workshops and community programs)

  • Initiates and encourages publication of division activities

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director
