We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College's staff as the new Diversity Education & Programs Coordinator.

The Title III Diversity Education & Programs Coordinator will provide diversity, equity, and inclusion education and program coordination for the five-year Title III grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education entitled "Building an IDEAL (Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, Accessible Learning) Community at Maryville College." Project I.D.E.A.L aims to improve first-year student success and to improve instructional technology and data utilization by creating a student success model centered in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Expected outcomes include improved academic performance, increased sense of belonging, and increased retention rates for low-income and Black students.

The Title III award of $2.25 million runs from October 1, 2023 through Sept. 30, 2028. This is a 12-month full-time position subject to continued federal funding annually. The Diversity Education & Programs Coordinator reports to the Title III Director and works collaboratively with the College's DEI team.

Your primary job duties and responsibilities would include:

  • Provide training for various campus constituencies to develop and enhance capacity for fostering an inclusive and equitable living-learning environment, that builds a sense of belonging and community.

  • Support the implementation of campus climate assessments and design trainings based on identified focus areas in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Institutional Equity

  • Responsible for planning and implementation, maintenance of records, communications and reporting, and evaluation of the DEI trainings to meet the objectives of Project I.D.E.A.L.

  • Support implementation of innovative, culturally responsive, and inclusive instructional models and pedagogies that foster increased academic support for low-income and/or historically marginalized students.

  • Collaborate with the Project I.D.E.A.L director and DEI Team on the design, implementation and assessment of Summer Transition Program providing cohort building and belonging.

  • Provide training and resources for student organizations/clubs that support BIPOC, first generation students in collaboration with the Coordinator for Access and Inclusion, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Excellence and DEI, & Director of CDEI.

  • Collaborate with the Director for Disability Services to ensure all DEI trainings and programs satisfy accessibility requirements

  • Provide coordination and administrative support for the Summer Transition Program (i.e. recruitment, planning, logistics, communications)in collaboration with other relevant cohort programs with Senior Associate Athletic Director for Excellence and DEI, Director of CDEI, and Assistant Dean for Institutional Equity.

Minimum qualifications for this job required are:

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred in higher education from an accredited college or university in education, psychology, ethnic studies, sociology, or related field.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with college faculty, staff, and/or students from different cultural heritages and identities and facilitating the coexistence of people in a culturally diverse community.

  • Demonstrated commitment to and formal training in DEI philosophies, methodologies, competencies, and programs in higher education, especially with students and staff.

  • Experience facilitating training and development for faculty, staff, and/or students.

  • Experience in culturally responsive training, including mediation.

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Ability to offer evidence-based, collaborative seminars, workshops, and training on DEI pedagogy.

  • Ability to plan develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs, activities, and groups.

  • Understanding of best practices and current issues supportive of first-year student transition, development, and retention, especially of BIPOC/low-income students.

  • Understanding of best practices for DEI training for groups at various skill/knowledge levels
