Job Title Diversity and Inclusion Programs (Work Study Only) Position Summary

The Diversity & Inclusion Programs Student Assistant is a student staff member employed by the Division of Student Affairs. This position is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director for Student Diversity & Inclusion Programs in the effective administration of the Departments goals and objectives. This is accomplished through assisting in the planning, implementation, and assessment of projects and initiatives as assigned.

Federal Work-Study Awarded students preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and execution of varying scales of programming dedicated to diversity and inclusion; Tasks include ordering supplies, reserving space, event setup and breakdown, survey administration, etc.

  • Participate in collaborative projects with other student assistants and professional staff when appropriate.

  • Administer program marketing efforts including designing brochures, flyers, and social media and website content.

  • Act as an information source about the department and the University.

  • Perform administrative duties as assigned, including but not limited to: answering phone calls and emails, filing, data entry, equipment check out and supply inventory.

  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings, workshops, and training programs as specified by supervisor.

  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.

  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance at desk, at all times.

  • Enforce and abide by all University and Divisional policies and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with University and FERPA policies.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

  • Must be a current Texas Wesleyan student in good standing and 2.0 GPA.

Experience

  • Experience in student leadership, event planning, social media content creation, and working with student organizations (preferred, but not required).

  • Experience in customer service or office setting (preferred, but not required).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with current software programs.

  • Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations, FERPA related laws, and laws related to student records and confidentiality.

  • Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Ability to balance collaborative and independent work.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to provide and demonstrate quality customer service.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and remain diplomatic while working with diverse groups in various situations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with divisional, institutional, and government regulations.

  • Ability to maintain composure in challenging or emergency situations while handling situations in a professional manner.

  • Demonstrated passion and support for diversity and inclusion, as well as the ability to support all students regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, nationality and/or language.
