Who We Are:

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is designed to promote and foster a learning community to support teachers and school personnel effectively integrating various instructional and behavioral strategies such as applied behavior analysis, structured teaching, and evidence-based practices to support classroom teachers to meet our students' academic and social/behavioral needs. This position also serves as a consultant to the school personnel and parents of these students in all schools with the goal to promote our students with disabilities to be educated in the least restrictive environment.

The Diverse Learner Behavioral/Instructional Specialist reports to the Coordinator of Private/Alternative Schools and indirectly to the Director of Diverse Learner Department.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:

  • Proficient in behavior intervention plan development, implementation, and its evaluation of plan effectiveness.

  • Excellent in conducting functional behavior assessments/analysis.

  • Experience in designing and assessing classroom management systems, and reinforcement systems.

  • Ability to use and model effective instructional strategies and techniques for classroom teachers.

  • Experience in facilitating and implementing individual and systemic interventions.

  • Experience in implementing and integrating technology and assistive technology in working with school teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop system and structure to promote a learning community among teachers, teaching assistants, related service personnel and school administrators.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school team members to plan and implement appropriate interventions and oversee the implementation of program.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement the common core state standards and the AllofE framework.

  • Provide professional staff development and student support to help school personnel identify and understand students identified with social/emotional/behavioral needs.

  • Work in partnership with teachers to integrate the use of digital tools and resources in support effective instruction and improved student learning.

  • Utilize and integrate various technologies in data collection and analysis, progress monitoring, data tracking as well as to model school team as such.

  • Participate as a member of the IEP team and to assist in developing, implementing appropriate interventions as well as evaluating its effectiveness.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans to ensure student progress.

  • Create and locate electronic learning resources for teachers, staff, and students that support technology integration.

  • Model a collaborative learning style with all constituency groups.

  • Collaborate and coach teachers in the development and implementation of social emotional curriculum consistent with student needs and district instructional goals.

  • Maintain digital device skills and continue to expand instructional technology expertise to adapt to changing digital needs and new tools.

  • Participate in professional growth activities leading toward enhancing professional qualifications.

  • Fulfill professional responsibilities such as participation in district program improvement efforts, participation in community and parent groups, and abides by and promotes high ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold an LBSI endorsement;

  • 3-5 years experience working with students with behavioral challenges;

  • Experience with assistive technology and instructional technology;

  • Must have knowledge and experience in ABA, structured teaching and behavior modification;

  • Must be CPI certified prior to the start of assignment or within 3 months of employment;

  • Experience in developing and implementing behavioral interventions/programs in school, classrooms and individual levels.

Compensation: Salary and stipend based on teacher personnel contract.

Terms of Employment: 10 months

Additional Information: Based upon Grant Funding Approval annually. May work up to 10 days prior to the start of the school year and 10 days after the end of school year based on District needs.
