General Purpose: Provides Dive Program DAN (or other OSHA compliant) training and other operations support.

Essential Functions:

  • Support Divers Alert Network (DAN) DFA Course training.

  • Help current Dive Program staff teach DAN DFA Pro Classes to staff and volunteers (30 classes).

  • Help manage DAN class preparation (scheduling, equipment, documentation) to give continuity to previously scheduled plans and logistics.

  • Assign and track DAN E-learning student course progress utilizing the DAN website. Completion coincides ahead of scheduled DAN classes.

  • Submit DAN class certifications post class.

  • Work with Manager to submit invoices.

  • Working with Manager and Dive Program team members, reschedule students in existing DAN classes as needed.

  • (Secondary Functions)

  • Partner with Dive Program team member for 2-person class instruction.

  • Work with the Manager to update supply inventory and DAN Cart supplies.

  • Facilitate DAN class communications.

  • Participate in DAN DFA Pro Staff teaching review.

  • Other duties as assigned or required.

  • Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

Required:

  • Current DAN DFA Instructor certification (current DAN member).

  • An internationally recognized professional open water scuba instructor certification.

  • High School Diploma.

  • Two years of college and/or equivalent experience.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Must be adept at following established Dive Program DAN instructor training outline and assigned tasks.

  • Must be competent and experienced in diver first aid or other comparable dive instructor training.

  • Must be energetic, responsible, and grounded.

  • Familiarity with computers and DAN website and instructor portal.

  • Capacity to decide when to act independently and when to consult the Dive Program team.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in marine sciences, biology, zoology, or related field is preferred.

Competencies:

  • Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow directions of supervisor (s), and work as a team player.

  • Ability to interact with all divers (staff and volunteer) creating a positive and trusting working relationship.

  • Ability to work within and maintain the National Aquarium's I2SEE values.
