What you will do

Support our Fire Domain electronic systems sales team as a local market technical asset. As a resident subject matter expert you will evaluate opportunities to develop/suggest appropriate bills of material, strategy, and course of action. You will conduct site surveys comparing and revising both floor and site plans to suggest equipment and originate system layouts. You will interact with design professionals and contractors to explain and suggest our material, method, and offerings. You will serve as a local market industry relations technical leader applying your prior experience, skills, and intimate knowledge of people, product, and process to successfully navigate local market conditions to winnable outcomes.

How you will do it

Securing and or originate initial project documentation and tracking updates/addenda


  • Downloading and saving specifications and drawing sets. Compare addenda specifications and drawings to original sets to identify changes in scope

  • Developing specifications and drawing sets to quote opportunities lacking an identifiable design professional in responsible charge

Developing project scope of work


  • Conducting project take-offs to determine equipment counts based upon project specifications and drawings

  • Authoring documents that clearly describe the project scale and scope for the Sales Executive to be delivered with the JCI bid documents. These are typically Word documents, but may also include control system, and network riser drawings that include the systems to be controlled, quantities of controlled devices, and scope exclusions.

  • Creating systems layouts and quoting scope where opportunities lack an identifiable design professional in responsible charge

Soliciting electrical installation quotes from local subcontractors


  • Authoring of pre-contract RFPs, including scopes of work as above, project scheduling, bonding requirements, etc.

  • Continual communication between JCI and 3 to 5 subcontractors, including answering questions and clarifying scope information requests.

  • Assuring initial and any updated scope is shared equally between all subcontractors

Soliciting vendor quotes for non-JCI material


  • Identification from the specifications and drawings which required material must be purchased externally.

  • Identifying representatives or distributors of the required material and soliciting pricing accordingly.

  • As needed, share specification sections, and develop material schedules for vendors to use as scope guidance.

Creating and managing project risk logs


  • Identifying scope items from the specifications and drawings offering potential to add or remove costs from the project bid price.

  • Identifying scope items from the specifications and drawings that do not add or remove costs from the project bid price, but may influence the way the project is sold and managed.

  • Clearly identify the risk management strategy for each item identifying necessary costs associated with each item as needed.

Conducting management pricing reviews


  • Developing strategically appropriate Bills of Material tailored to each project opportunity

  • Clear communication of the project scope, pricing approaches, risk, and unusual job characteristics for differing management audiences.

  • Maintaining agenda, topic, and time discipline to assure all relevant discussion items are covered and discussed.

Track, maintain, analyze, and report your daily activities to document productivity for senior management on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis


  • Daily management of a collaborative group sales tool. You will extract, organize, manage, and report time invested in pursuing sales opportunities.

Research, acquire, organize, and maintain the local markets technical resource library of Codes, Standards, Product Literature, and Estimating Tools


  • Organizing and maintaining your allotted electronic and physical storage space in a Subject Matter Experts central resource repository assisting others with specific needs and requests to select and access relevant material

Actively engage and assist your local markets building design community (Architectural, MEP, and Contracting Firms) championing our Products and Services to influence specification share favorable to JCI


  • Subject Matter Expert mastery of applicable Codes, Standards, Material, and Methods of your specialty

  • Calling on Architectural, MEP, and Contracting firms to educate, answer questions, and author project specifications

Actively engage and assist your local markets industry relations activities (Inspection/AHJ/ Industry Groups) championing our Products and Services to influence favorable opinion of JCI


  • Subject Matter Expert mastery of applicable Codes, Standards, Material and Methods of your specialty

  • Maintaining professional licenses, intervention in disputes / de-conflicting situations, and participating in/hosting industry events

  • Basic field drafting / floor plan editing skills

  • Emotional maturity and professional behavior on job sites and during review meetings

  • Strong ability to self-manage day-to-day workload and project tasks

  • Ability to be managed by a remotely located manager

  • Meet expectations of performance management, including volume of projects supported, maintaining average team efficiencies of hours spent per dollar of sell price, and mitigating installed project slippage through strong estimating processes.

  • Ability to conduct on-site retrofit surveys with self-scheduled light regional travel.

Preference to

  • College Degree Associates minimum, Bachelor's preferred in Engineering, Construction related, or Business major

  • Relevant NICET Certification at LEVEL IV in your assigned area of expertise

  • Applicable Professional Trade License/s and/or Industry Certifications awarded at a senior level

  • Established professionals currently serving in a complementary capacity within the JCI organization
