Summary

This position is located in Region 1 on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forests, Butte Ranger District, Butte MT.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a District Ranger with responsibility for the management of the resources, goods, and services of a designated area on a National Forest.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare program of work for the management, protection, and development of resources on the assigned unit.

  • Establish and implement the development, production, conservation, and utilization of the natural resources of associated lands of the unit.

  • Formulate the plans, programs, and objectives for the assigned unit based on overall unit objectives.

  • Analyze long-range and short-range action plans to ensure consistency with strategies and program emphasis in the approved forest plan.

  • Develop, edit, revise, or review written material about agency programs, environmental analysis, policies, or proposals.

  • Provide recommendations and resource information to higher organizational levels concerning programs within the unit.

  • Promote unit program objectives and policies to gain support for their implementation.

  • Plan and direct the overall work of the unit performed through subordinate supervisors, team leaders, committee chairs or comparable similar personnel.

  • Provide leadership, allocate resources, and implement activities to accomplish agency multicultural organization direction and Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights requirement, goals, policies, and objectives.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

GS-13 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Provided counsel to higher organizational levels concerning natural resource program issues and their current and anticipated effects; Exercised program responsibilities that included one or more of the following: program development, planning, budgeting, or identifying workforce and organizational needs to establish and meet priorities; Interacted with local, county, and State representatives, civic groups, cooperators, permittees, members of the general public, and industry to discuss, explain, or defend natural resource management policies and regulations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

District Managers are the operational link between the field and the corporate office. Responsible for hiring, enforcing disciplinary actions and recommending terminations for Casino/ Lounge Managers while overseeing these activities for runners, liquor store attendants, bar tenders, maintenance, bookkeepers, and assistant managers; document the good and bad when analyzing a situation. * <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Conduct performance reviews for Casino/Lounge managers in detail while documenting strengths and areas for improvements. * <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Conduct location inspections according to guidelines and timeframes outlined by Casino Operations, ability to give detailed recommendations for improvements and follow up to ensure all equipment is up and running, refer maintenance problems to our Solutions Group.
