General Job Description:

Assists in planning and implementation of public relations and recruitment initiatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in planning and implementation of public relations and recruitment initiatives. Promotes goodwill and awareness of programs/services that facilitate the attainment of career center objectives.

  • Uses independent judgment and organizational skills to manage recruitment activities.

  • Plans/implements strategies to ensure tasks are completed within required time-frames.

  • Facilitates a favorable perception/understanding of career center programs and accomplishments.

  • Routinely interacts with all program services to develop a complete understanding of educational opportunities/program services available to students.

  • Prepares recruitment materials. Plans/manages production timelines. Ensures that information is accurate/appropriate.

  • Arranges recruitment activities for all UVCC programs.

  • Prepares recruitment materials for the career center's website and other collateral for the district.

  • Works with the public relations coordinator to develop and publicize articles/news releases about school programs and human-interest stories (e.g., special events, public/professional awards, etc.).

  • Works with the public relations coordinator to create and maintain social media presence.

  • Coordinates public events (e.g., displays, open houses, fairs, Career Tech-To-Go trailer, etc.). Trains student guides. Provides tours to showcase career-technical programs. Responds to requests for information.

  • Recruits employers and alumni volunteers to provide career information to prospective students.

  • Assists with student enrollment procedures.

  • Assists committees and helps with special projects/program activities as directed.

  • Provides employment and post-secondary training information (e.g., college, university, technical, proprietary schools; military services, etc.). Updates scholarships and financial aid information.

  • Develops and/or maintains pathways to the OTC.

  • Serves as a resource for drug/harassment/violence prevention and related school safety activities.

  • Develops strategies to improve performance and increase graduation rates for at-risk students.

  • Initiates student/family referrals to community services (e.g., legal, health, social services, etc.). Serves as a contact person for public agencies and an intermediary for parents/staff.

Qualifications:

  • Public relations skills substantiated by training, work experience, and/or degree.

  • Ability to implement persuasive marketing and communication strategies. Originality, critical thinking, and social perceptiveness skills.

  • Meets Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators qualifications.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in spelling, proofreading, and correct use of grammar. Demonstrates skills in graphic design, layout, photography, web page design, and a variety of writing styles.

  • Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline, and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.

  • Exemplifies visionary/resolute leadership skills in developing/managing people.

  • Exhibits effective organizational, time-management, and resourceful problem-solving skills.

  • Interacts confidently with others and displays a strong customer-service focus.

  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.

  • Shows evidence of core computer competencies deemed appropriate at the time of hire.

Salary:

Appropriate placement on the District Professionals Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Salary will range from $56,377.00 ( Class IV, Step 0) to $67,631 (Class IV, Step 5). Base contract is 225 days. Minimum workday is 7.5 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break . One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

School Employees Retirement System, Worker's Compensation, paid sick/personal leave, partial tuition reimbursement, and tax-sheltered retirement contributions. Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offered. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

Performance Evaluation:

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
