Position: District Nurse
Effective August 2024
Roles and Responsibilities:
Provides staff development on health-related topics for school personnel.
Provides health assessments for students.
Participates in developing and implementing a student health plan.
Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
Plans and implements school health management protocols.
Develops procedures and provides for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses.
Coordinates Vision, Hearing and other health screening activities.
Coordinates First Aid and CPR training for staff.
Coordinates MICR
Attends Administration meetings.
Represents the health care team at School Board Meetings.
Director of Reproduction Education / Abstinence Education.
Participate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team.
Works as a liaison between the medical community and the school district.
Serves as a resource person on health issues.
Promotes and assists in control of communicable diseases.
Provides health education and counseling to students and families.
Engages in research and evaluation of school health services to act as a change agent for school health programs and school nursing practices.
Provides consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district.
Effectively work with administration in determining the level of support needed for a student for accommodations and IDEA 504 plans.
Provide Professional Development for crisis, emergency, health, wellness and safety to District staff, students and community.
Coordinate, monitor and work with local and state agencies for crisis, emergency, health, wellness and safety needs for the District.
Test and Track for Covid related illnesses.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Education Requirements and Preferred Skills:
Bachelor's degree and current nursing license with the state of Michigan
State of Michigan School Nurse Certification or qualifications to obtain certification.
Registered with the state of Michigan with Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) as a licensed and Registered Nurse.
Minimum of three to five years successful Registered Nurse experience, preferably with school age students, in public health nursing, community health nursing or in a school health setting.
Experience with Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR)
Excellent and empathetic communicator.
Excellent writing and mathematics ability.
Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:
42 week calendar, August through June
Starting salary range: $75,000-$85,000
