  • Provide leadership and instructional resources and services for implementation of the district library media program that serves as an integral part of a student-centered educational process.

  • Communicate regularly with Library Media Clerks via meetings, documents, emails, and phone calls.

  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the school Library Media Clerks in the following tasks:

  • identifying goals and objectives for the media centers;

  • planning and extending media programs;

  • publicizing media center programs and projects;

  • writing grants that will provide for media center needs;

  • acquiring varied types of media resources;

  • evaluating programs and services consistent with qualifying media programs at local, state and national levels;

  • Advise the building principals and Library Media Clerks on the purchase of media materials and supplies.

  • Provide initial training of new hires for non-certified and classified media positions.

  • Be responsible for the administration of professional development programs for professional staff in the use of media center equipment and material.

  • Prepare and submit in a timely manner reports for local, state and federal requirements.

  • Evaluate and report annually to the Board concerning the Lake Ridge library media program according to accepted standards of quality.

  • Interact effectively with students, staff, administration, and the general public to promote and expand the Lake Ridge School District library media program.

  • Assess learning and information needs of students and staff in order to provide high quality library media services.

  • Instruct students and staff in the effective use of ideas and information.

  • Actively pursue grants and funding to improve the quality of Lake Ridge Schools library media centers.

  • Be an active, contributing member of School Improvement Teams as well as other groups that are working toward improved student achievement.

  • Plan and work collaboratively with teachers and technology staff to select and evaluate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals of students and teachers in the information age.

  • Keep accurate inventories of print, non-print, and technology materials and equipment.

  • Work with principals and school leadership teams to provide flexible access to school library media center resources.

  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to 21st Century learning as per the guidelines of the American Association of School Librarians.

  • Encourage the widest possible use of print and electronic resources and services within the school library media centers, throughout the schools and through remote access.

  • Adhere to copyright as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and use of resources.

Education Required: Must have Library Science Degree and Library/Media Educator License from the State of Indiana.

This person will oversee media centers in one (1) elementary schools, one (1) middle school and one (1) high school. Will also oversee the development and implementation media center/library services supporting project-based/problem based learning K-12, college and career readiness skills, Science of Reading, and school and district-wide literacy initiatives.
