The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Division of Animal and Plant Health, is recruiting to fill the position of District Humane Agent in Aroostook County.
There will be a 3% across the board general salary increase effective June 30th, 2024.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position will work in the Office of Animal Welfare. Duties include the investigation of animal welfare complaints, report writing, public education of animal welfare issues, and inspections of areas where animals are kept. The Humane Agent will enhance and maintain positive relationships with animal welfare, law enforcement, and other related personnel and agencies within the State.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of education, training and/or experience that demonstrates proficiency in the knowledge of or professional expertise in the proper care, handling, nutrition/maintenance, and treatment of small and large animals (to include horses)
RESIDENCY PREFERENCE: Live in Aroostook county
Automatic Disqualifiers
Preference will be given to those with at least two (2) years of experience in Animal Control, Sheltering, or as a Veterinary Technician, and:
General understanding of companion and large animal husbandry, animal handling, and animal welfare principles
General understanding of animal infectious disease control and prevention
Written and oral communication skills
Must have ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or be on-call after hours.
