JOB DESCRIPTION: DISTRICT HEALTH COORDINATOR

SALARY SCHEDULE: CERTIFIED COORDINATOR

DEPARTMENT: SPECIAL SERVICES

POSITION SUMMARY:

The District Health Coordinator provides leadership and guidance to promote effective school health policies, practices, and programs through collaboration with administrators, educational professionals and other licensed medical professionals

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Registered Nurse (RN) Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing
Certified, or eligible to be Certified, as a School Nurse by the Oklahoma State Board of Education
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
Master's degree in Public Health, Nutrition/Dietetics, Social Work, Health Education, Public Administration, or Education preferred
CPR Instructor Training Certification
2 years of experience in the public health and/or school district health fields required
Ability to perform all essential duties satisfactorily

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and coordinates the District-Wide LPNs and RNs to provide health related services in the school clinic and classroom setting. Supervisor duties include, but are not limited to, evaluating, scheduling, and assisting with the completion of professional development requirements.
Assists in the development of district policies and programs related to student and/or employee health in accordance with Board policy and legislative mandates. This could include but not limited to hearing and vision screenings, HIV-AIDS, nutrition, general health and well-being, dental, and growth and development educational programs.
Maintains current CPR instructor trainer certification. Conducts CPR, First Aid, and other health related training as needed. Coordination of health education by non-district personnel; to include nursing students, respiratory therapy students and volunteers.
Maintains direct communication with the Superintendent, immediate supervisor, and District and Public Health Agencies on public health concerns or outbreaks.
Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases, and coordinates the compilation of health services data for district and state reports. Monitors School Nurse activities related to entry of health information using district student accounting software.
Administers district Bloodborne Pathogen Training program according to Oklahoma Department of Labor standards. Coordinates employee post blood exposure care. Coordinates Hepatitis B Vaccination of Employees whose job description qualifies them to receive it through the district at no cost. Maintains files related to care.
Collaborate with Special Services Department, Student Accounting and Child Nutrition Departments regarding students with medical issues/disabilities and for the acquisition of student health data that includes but is not limited to immunizations and medical diagnosis. Inspects, monitors and/or prepares 504 plans, Individual Healthcare Plans or physician orders for care of medically sensitive students.
Provides care for students and staff in the case of injury or emergency illness within the RN's scope of practice. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
Orders supplies and oversees equipment calibration related to the delivery of health services and/or health screening for use through-out the district.
Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee's eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
