We are looking for professionals with Civil/Construction Engineering interest, who can support the Virginia Department of Transportation in constructing new roadway designs to keep Virginia Moving!

In this position, you will provide strategic leadership and direction in the planning and delivery of the Districts' engineering programs. Oversee local budgets and administrative planning. Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, guidelines, timeframes and scheduling of major activities or deliverables. Ensure compliance with program priorities, quality of work and VDOT agreements. Meet statewide performance measures and objectives. Build relationships with internal and external customers, contractors, government officials, and media. Communicate with constituents, stakeholders and employees regarding issues, concerns and complaints through personal, individual contacts, and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in managerial, administrative and supervisory principles and practices; strategic, operational and financial management principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or related field.

  • Experience applying broad knowledge of federal, state and local transportation rules, regulations and policies.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Skill in use of computers and software applications.

  • Experience as Engineer responsible charge overseeing transportation construction principles and practices, transportation project management, processes, quality assurance and quality control methods.

  • Valid Professional Engineer's license.

  • Experience in engineering design for roadways, state and federal standards related to highway design and construction.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with contractors, political entities and general public.

  • Skilled in project scheduling and project management.

  • Experience in project development, construction management and contract administration principles and practices; and quality assurance and quality control methods.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience supervising engineering staff.

  • Progressively responsible experience in management and administration of diversified transportation engineering and, or construction program.

  • Experience performing large-scale operations and management functions in public service operations.

  • Experience leading construction and engineering staff.

  • Progressively responsible experience managing transportation construction, maintenance and public relations to include administrative, professional and technical staff.

  • Progressively responsible experience in managing and administering a diversified transportation engineering or construction program.
