District Beginning Teacher Support Coordinator
Purpose: The Beginning Teacher Support Coordinator works under general supervision and leads in the following areas: Beginning Teacher (BT) Support Program, professional development for beginning teachers, Mentor Program, supporting feedback and evaluation processes for beginning teachers and other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Executive Director of Human Resources
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Beginning Teacher Program & Professional Development:
Manages, coaches and develops the district's Beginning Teacher Mentors and supports building-level Site Support Leaders.
Works collaboratively with internal partners (Curriculum and Instruction team) and external partners (local colleges and universities) to develop, plan, execute, and facilitate professional development for renewal and alternatively licensed teachers.
Engages BTs in professional development opportunities and ensures that BTs successfully complete all required professional development.
Coordinates all communication and expectations for Site Support Leaders.
Leads training for Beginning Teachers on the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System.
Develops and maintains Beginning Teacher website.
Attends required district, regional, and state meetings, including regional BT meetings.
Recruitment & Onboarding:
Partners with the Director of Talent Acquisition to develop a comprehensive and innovative recruiting plan each year for beginning teachers.
Participates in local, regional and state college-based career fairs to build relationships and recruit graduating teacher candidates.
Coordinates with partners to recruit, hire, and support international teachers.
Leads and facilitates comprehensive onboarding of all new teachers, especially BTs..
Plans and collaborates with school system Principals to provide support for beginning teachers at school sites.
Coordinates the mentor program for Beginning Teachers.
Coordinates the recruitment and placement of all certified interns.
Compliance & Reporting:
Develops and maintains Title II Beginning Teacher and Lateral Entry reports.
Monitors the teacher evaluation system (NCEES) for BTs to ensure compliance.
Consults and works with Principals and other leaders to ensure state and local requirements for BTs are met.
Verifies and provides information necessary to satisfy local and state reporting requirements and leads preparation for state-level audits for the Beginning Teacher Support program.
Remains current in state and federal program guidelines, procedures, rules, and laws.
Stays abreast of North Carolina Standard Course of Study instructional initiatives as they apply to new teachers.
Miscellaneous:
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university strongly preferred
5 years of successful work experience in teaching and educational leadership; K-12 education experience required
NC Teacher Certification - required
National Board Certification - preferred
Experience as a mentor or new teacher support role - preferred
Experience leading new teacher support - preferred
Experience recruiting for education or other related fields - preferred
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
Strong understanding of research-based best practices for new teacher support
Ability to conduct professional development for teachers and administrators
Ability to disaggregate, interpret, and analyze data
Success working collaboratively with colleagues, leadership and diverse groups at all levels within the district
Ability to lead and develop others
Ability to work and lead independently
Discreet, able to handle confidential and proprietary information appropriately.
Term of Employment: 12 months
