LOCATION: Rapid City, SD

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Support and assist with various Distribution Planning projects as assigned within the Company's Transmission & Distribution Planning Department. These projects will be assigned consistent with the Company's Internship Program with an emphasis on developing an understanding of the Company's multiple business units and enhancing the intern's ability to apply his/her engineering education in a professional environment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Distribution Planning Supervisor with further direction and support from Engineers within this team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Project assignments may include:

  • Reconcile electric system model database with equipment design and operating data

  • Includes line impedance, protection system, voltage and reactive power control data

  • Assist with distribution system modeling and planning studies and associated documentation

  • Engineer and design electrical system projects and upgrades

  • Develop and coordinate equipment standards and maintenance procedures

  • Provide engineering support to Engineers, Drafting Technicians and other technical groups

  • Assist with project construction

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Additional projects may be assigned as needed.

  • Adherence to all safety policies, practices, and procedures to assure a safe working environment

  • Assist and support the other engineering and maintenance activities within the department

  • Support safety, diversity, and social responsibility goals of the department, business unit and corporation

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Maintain professional working relationships with internal and external departments, utilities, customers and agencies.

  • Promote a collaborative working environment with co-workers.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with connecting to field installed equipment via laptop computer is desirable.

  • Prior experience at utility or industrial company desirable.

EDUCATION:

  • College sophomore or above working toward Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a Power or Control Systems emphasis.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.

SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prepare and give presentations.

  • Detail oriented and organized.

  • Ability to perform work efficiently, learning to monitor effort in accordance with deadlines.

  • Employ standard engineering methods and practices in performing work.

  • Ability to concurrently work on multiple projects independently or as part of a team.

  • Motivated self-starter.

CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:

  • None required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Participation in the Company's Industry Orientation Experiences, which will include some travel and overnight stays.

  • Prepare and present a synopsis of experience with the Company at the end of the internship.

LOCATION: Rapid City, SD PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Directly support the Senior Manager – Financial Planning and Analysis in timely and accurate reporting of all financial data, including analyzing and providing financial reports and presentations required by company management, regulatory, and operations as well as external stakeholders. Responsible for the development, analysis, interpretation and communication of statistical and accounting information relating to actual services provided, capital expenditures, and development of operating budgets, strategic plans and forecasts, and related comparative reporting. Responsibilities include financial analysis, financial model development and maintenance, software implementation tasks, and working on special projects to support various business units with their financial analysis. Develop and implement process improvements to increase overall efficiency of forecasting, analysis and reporting. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Manager – Financial Planning & Analysis ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Actively participate in the development and preparation of annual budgets, long-range strategic plans and forecasts, and development of financial models. * Ensure financial forecast models integrate to produce an accurate consolidated financial forecast for Company at any given time. Responsible for updating the various financial models to reflect the current business processes both within Excel and within the budgeting software system. * Lead scenario and sensitivity analysis on base case Strategic Plan. * Prepare and maintain detailed annual financial planning calendars. * Interface with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Tax and Operations to ensure that accounting policies and practices are accurately reflected within the financial models. * Perform financial analyses and provide recommendations to achieve financial targets. * Prepare management presentations in a variety of formats including presentations to Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors. * Actively participate in or lead special projects as assigned. Projects may include but are not limited to strategic growth team participation, rate review support, and process improvement initiatives. * Obtain a solid understanding of regulatory processes and support regulatory filings as needed. * Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness. * Manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. * Establish and maintain effective internal controls.
