The primary role of the incumbent is to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of distribution line capacitor banks, three phase re-closers, medium voltage sensors, low voltage sensors, IPPs, regulators and all control and communication interfaces associated with this equipment. This position requires professional interaction with both internal and external customers to accomplish objectives, and the ability to coordinate activities with other crews and work groups. The incumbent will be knowledgeable of and responsible for the maintenance of distribution line equipment, controls, and technologies to ensure system operating efficiency, reliability, and power quality which would include performing tasks in and around energized primary conductors primary voltage (predominantly 23KV) top of pole (TOP) work.
Work to be performed will require a working knowledge of distribution automated controls, applications, and practices (diagnostics, feeder automation, etc.), and a working knowledge of applicable 2-way telecommunications equipment. The incumbent works with complex equipment to perform installation, preventative and corrective maintenance; provides technical support for project design and implementation; and performs troubleshooting activities. The incumbent works with complex diagnostic and support equipment and must possess the aptitude to quickly adapt to emerging technologies in the distribution line equipment & controls area. The incumbent performs work on single and three phase installations involving primary and secondary voltage levels.
The incumbent must possess a general knowledge of distribution construction specifications. Work is performed on and off system and may be located in the field or within company facilities for regulated and unregulated services. Incumbent may also be called upon to provide support on special assignments and projects as well as in emergency situations.
Assist with the commissioning of new installations for line capacitor bank, regulator, medium voltage sensors, low voltage sensors, and 3 phase recloser equipment and controls (including TOP work). Commissioning work includes installation, programming, and operational testing of modems, controls, 2-way communication equipment, etc.
Assist with troubleshooting reported problems and performing corrective and preventative maintenance to ensure proper operation of all line capacitor bank, 3 phase recloser, medium voltage sensor, low voltage sensors, and regulator equipment and controls (including TOP work); and conducting inspections.
Perform and/or participate in special projects and/or assignments including but not limited to storms, study teams, power quality monitoring, new product/ equipment evaluation, cross functional specialty tasks, site surveys, etc. as requested.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Three to six years job-related experience
Line & service experience (TOP work performing tasks in and around energized primary conductors (predominantly 23KV) inside & outside Minimum Approach Distance = 2'7"
Possess or able to obtain CDL
Possess the skill sets of a Distribution Line & Service Technician III
Maintain the skill sets of a Distribution Line & Service Technician III
Maintain availability for on-call work as required of a Distribution Line & Service Technician III
Up to 2 years of formal post-high school specialized trade, technical school or college. Area of specialization: Electrical/Electronic or equivalent experience
Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school. Area of specialization: Electrical/Electronics
Six to eight years job-related experience
Good written and verbal communications skills
Installing, programming & troubleshooting electronic equipment, controls & telecommunications
Interpersonal skills (ability to work with others)
Ability to obtain knowledge of & apply specialized software applications
Experience commissioning and troubleshooting Solar Farms
Experience commissioning and working on Self-Healing-Networks
