Pier 1 Imports is searching for a Distribution Center Supervisor for 2nd shift located in Onatrio, California.As a member of the leadership team you will lead your team toward meeting company goals while striving for continual improvement. Working within our dynamic Distribution Center gives you the opportunity to work with product from all over the world! This growth-oriented position reports to the DC Operations Manager and offers great opportunity for advancement! The successful candidate will demonstrate an aptitude for:

  • Supporting the implementation of best practices

  • Being customer service oriented

  • Analyzing information and using appropriate judgment to execute agreed upon strategies

  • Building collaborative relationships with all levels of management within Pier 1 Imports

  • Leading a team to achieve goals and objectives

  • Managing the financial performance of the assigned department(s) within the DC, to include monitoring appropriate staffing levels, reducing damages and controlling supply costs

  • Leading and supporting an effective Safety program

  • Maintaining company equipment

  • Effectively acquiring and training top talent

  • Providing verbal and written recognition and feedback to associates white mentoring and motivating teams to meet personal and company goals.

  • Ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to and effectively managed

  • Maintaining an open door policy in an effort to remain accessible to all associates

  • Maintaining the highest ethical standards and values

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Must possess excellent leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to develop talent

  • Ability to stock and retrieve merchandise of varying sizes from various heights, ranging from the floor level up to the ceiling of the Distribution Center

  • Ability to safely operate Distribution Center warehouse equipment

  • Ability to work in a non-air conditioned environment

  • Ability to, in occasion, work more than 40 hours per week based in business need, including evening, weekends and holidays

  • Ability to work on any shift

  • Ability to travel as required (DC Network meetings or for other special projects)

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. in a regular basis

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand for prolonged periods of time

  • Willingness to relocate for future growth opportunities

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in a related discipline such as Logistics / Supply Chain, Business or Retail Management
  • 1-3 years of experience in a Leadership / Supervisor role

Position Summary: The Fulfillment Center (FC) Supervisor is responsible for first-line management and overall performance of his/her department. This position is responsible for preparing and planning strategies to meet the department's daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Responsibilities also include coaching and managing associates to high performance standards and recognizing individual and team success. The FC Supervisor works in concert with the senior management team in the pursuit of operational excellence and the facility's all-around success. Primary Responsibilities: * Achieve performance goals and objectives in the areas of productivity, accuracy and expense control, as depicted by the budget * Analyze and conceptualize methodology * Make appropriate improvements to department processes and procedures * Participate in the hiring of skilled associates * Develop individual associate's skills, standards and morale through training and coaching * Direct, support and delegate tasks as appropriate to an individual associate's skill level * Give consistent and thorough feedback to associates, conduct timely Performance Appraisals, and deliver disciplinary action if necessary * Understand and effectively communicate company policies to ensure compliance and consistent administration * Read, understand and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports; use these reports to evaluate department's performance * Compute figures to accurately plan/adjust headcount to meet department's objectives * Foster communication and teamwork among staff to ensure accomplishment of operational goals * Develop and execute daily and weekly action plans to meet department and Fulfillment Center performance expectations * Understand and use Fulfillment/Distribution technology (i.e. WMS where appropriate, hardware and software components) and maintain control of department functions and procedures * Represent the Fulfillment Center/Staples in a professional manner, promoting Staples policies and programs and approaching challenges in a positive manner * Understand all safety procedures; ensure safe work practices are followed and maintain a safe work environment QualificationsBasic: * High School Diploma or GED required * 1-3 years experience working in a warehouse environment * Computation/mathematical ability and reading comprehension of technical/financial materials and reports * Knowledge of PC applications * Eagerness and ability to learn - absorb new information quickly * Initiative to work with minimal instruction and direction * Strong oral and written communication skills * Experience and working knowledge of warehouse systems, processes and productivity standards (WMS, computerized systems, SPC – statistical process control – and related ability to recognize, articulate and address variances in processes) * Positive associate relations skills; ability to direct, coach, support, and delegate and maintain morale * Demonstrated responsibility, maturity and leadership ability * Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem solving ability * Possess a sense of urgency required to work in a deadline driven environment Preferred: * Bachelor's Degree preferred Staples is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
