FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Urban Studies at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) invites applications to fill two Distinguished Lecturer positions to begin at the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

Distinguished Lecturers are experienced practitioners who will teach credit-bearing courses in degree programs, and who hold a full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment. We seek candidates who will be able to draw on their own ample professional experiences to teach courses and to mentor students as they develop professional goals and career paths. Candidates must have a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.

Candidates must have a proven record of research and publication on topics related to Urban Studies. We seek candidates who demonstrate expertise and experience in at least one or more of the following: urban public policy and community power analysis, economic democracy and community development, legislative and executive decision-making, constituency mobilization, and the assessment of social class, movements, and interest group capacities for achieving policy reform. The person filling this position could teach courses in the Public Administration and Public Policy Certificate, the Community Leadership Certificate, the Workplace Democracy and Community Ownership Certificate, as well as in the Urban Studies BA and MA degrees.

SLU also collaborates with New York City's labor unions and other CUNY schools to offer a broad range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement and economic mobility.
