With this massive mission, we are looking to build a strong team of skilled and talented engineers within our People & Finance Technology organization to be core contributors while we expand the team in this space.

As a Distinguished Engineer, you will be a key member of the engineering staff, leading the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase the velocity of delivering products and unlocking new engineering capabilities. In this highly collaborative role, you will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission.

Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep full stack development experience in the Java, Python, GO and/or Spark domains.

Position Responsibilities

As a Distinguished Engineer, you will:

  • Focus on multiple areas and provide leadership to the engineering teams

  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems

  • Develop and execute technical software development strategy for a variety of domains

  • Be accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions

  • Utilize programming languages like Java or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services

  • Utilize developer tooling and a variety of Azure tools and services across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)

  • Be a role model and mentor, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community

  • Influence and educate executives

  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.

  • Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans

  • Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, and demonstrate adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning

Qualifications

  • Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap

  • Fluency and Specialization in at least two modern languages such as GO, Java, Python and/or Spark, including object-oriented design

  • Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production

  • Preferred Experience: Track-record of publications history in credible conferences and journals

  • Preferred Experience: Experience in leveraging PowerShell scripting

  • Preferred Experience: Experience ins security protocols and products - Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth

  • Preferred Experience : Experience in Azure Network (Subscription, Security Zoning, etc)

  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code

  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms

  • Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches

  • Proven understanding of micro-services-oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs

  • Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.

  • Experience with open-source SQL like PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases

  • Fluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture and Azure DevOps Operational Framework

  • Experience in existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal

  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code

  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)

  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms

  • Advanced understanding of advanced monitoring tools and performance assessments

Experience

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers and Java)

  • 8+ years of experience with architecture and design

  • 6+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service

  • 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks

  • 3+ years of people management experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
