Description
Job Summary
The Distillation Technician operates distillation columns and performs tasks related to production of recovered ethanol. This full-time employee performs basic preventive maintenance on equipment, verifies lots and amounts, and creates Grinding Logs and Shop Orders so that all herb for the production runs are available before the batch is run.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Job Level 1 - Distillation and Grinding Operator
Can perform all key aspects of the position proficiently:
Performing cleaning and sanitation properly
Disassembling and re-connecting equipment
Performs start-up checks and adjustments as needed
Able to run and operate production proficiently
Can resolve normal and routine machine interruptions
Follows Batch Grinding Records correctly
Performs basic preventative maintenance
Uses company systems at a proficient level
Maintains current training requirements and certifications independently
Job Level 2 - Distillation and Grinding Operator Technician 2
Skills from Level 1 AND:
Performs all aspects of the position at an advanced level
Achieves efficiency goals when operating, cleaning and sanitizing, and performing startup on batches
Can troubleshoot non-routine issues and make advanced adjustments or repairs to the equipment
Recommends and implements process and equipment changes to improve equipment quality, efficiency, reliability
Serves as knowledgeable resource for co-workers
Able to operate the distillation units to produce ethanol
Certified to perform quality verifications and equipment signoffs
Job Level 3 - Distillation and Grinding Operator Technician 3
Skills from Level 1, Level 2, AND:
Performs all aspects of the position at an expert level
Exceeds efficiency goals when operating, cleaning and sanitizing, and performing setup or line clearances
Can troubleshoot non-routine issues and make expert-level adjustments or repairs to the equipment
Serves as expert-level grinding and distillation resource for the company
Leads and develops systems and processes as a team facilitator and liaison for cross-functional communication
Certified trainer, can conduct training on all job aspects
Supervisory Responsibilities

Requirements
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED is required.
Some post-secondary education preferred.
Forklift experience preferred: Propane, Electric, Drexel Side Loader, Stand-up lift and Battery Powered pallet jack. Must be willing to learn and operate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic working knowledge of mechanical systems (i.e. valves, pumps, motors, etc.)
Ability to come in early and or stay later than scheduled shift, work weekends to accommodate varying daily company needs.
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, decimals, and percentages.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to be able to view a computer screen. Employee should be able to move and lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds of inventory on a regular basis.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. This position requires employees to work outside in the elements 12 months of the year.
