POSITION OVERVIEW: This position is a safety sensitive, first line supervisory
position in the Transportation Services Department. Work involves use of a
computerized dispatch, radio control system and monitoring of the Transit Center
operation. The employee is responsible for making decisions related to
established policies, practices, and procedures to carry out the safe and
efficient operations of Regional Transit Service.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Manager of Transit Center
Operations. This position is associated with the Teamsters, Local 118 Collective
Bargaining Unit.

WORK SCHEDULE: Will be a floater assigned to cover any vacant Radio Control and
Dispatch shifts that may arise. Must be available to work flexible days, shifts,
hours.

RATE: $27.09 per hour

The employee will perform the following duties:

Transit Center

  • Radio Control

Perform all duties as a Radio Controller
Communicate with other supervisory personnel such as Road Supervisors,
Transit Center Monitor, and Transit Center (Road) Supervisors to execute
efficient system operation
Operate Radio and Cad/AVL system software and equipment.
Ensures the proper use of radios, MDTs, Fare Boxes by operators through
monitoring and assistance.
Receive information and trouble calls. Manage the operators and assist
with problems: i.e., delays, breakdowns, accidents, etc. Relay information to
other sources when problems exist outside the jurisdiction of the radio
controller.
Coordinate movement of buses through the service area, relay data to
operators when conditions warrant it, i.e., inclement weather, blockades, etc.
Use judgment when necessary to hold buses on schedule, relocate buses when
necessary, requests and direct mechanical assistance, direct and advice
operators.
Constantly monitor emergency alarms as displayed on CRT screen.
Maintain records and reports incidental to controlling of buses.
Submit written reports of Bus Operators violations of Company policy and
instruct and counsel as necessary.
Monitors on time performance of operators.
Dispatch appropriate supervision and police assistance in the event that an
operator signals for emergency assistance. Notify appropriate company officials.
Communicate with 911 for emergency vehicle blockages on bus routes and
weather channel for weather updates.
Observe and responds to facility alarms and security cameras on property
grounds.
Maintains sign-out log for keys, vehicles, and equipment.
Understanding of collective Bargaining Agreement with ATU Local 282
Monitor Transit Center facility video
Operate access control/life safety systems
Coordinate incident response with Radio Control and Dispatch at RTS
Communications with security and police detail 24/7
Monitor the flow of buses through the Transit Center
Perform gate change assignments
Communication with Transit Center Supervisors and Radio Controller at RTS
Make announcements in Transit Center to inform customers of any changes to
bus locations and/or any emergency notifications

RTS Main Campus

  • Dispatch

Knowledge of extra board work rules
Responsible for assigning work and buses to Operators
Manage the Extra Board
Ensure Manpower coverage
Control the slate/attendance, layoff book
Assist with the quarterly operator pick and yearly vacations pick
Monitoring phones and all absenteeism calls, sick, bereavement and time
requested off
Working with Trapeze, Yard Walker, and Route Match for Small Vehicle
Operators
Correct and sign time sheet completed by operators
Work with the Bus Placer/Maintenance Department to ensure vehicle
availability to make pullout

Candidates Must Possess:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) plus at least two
(2) years' transit related experience
Supervisory experience or commensurate educational training
Good verbal and writing skills and a clear speaking voice
Knowledge of routes and schedules
Ability to show discretion in judgment
Initiative and the ability to motivate others and well-organized work habits
Proficient computer skills
Excellent Math Skills
Ability to work in a team environment
