POSITION SUMMARY

The Transport/EVS Dispatcher performs a variety of functions under the guidance and direction of the department management, including supervisors, and Capacity Management team. Oversees job assignment flows by distributing, assigning, and monitoring performance of transfers, room turnover, and assignment completion. The Transport/EVS Dispatcher will follow departmental policies and procedures, while also demonstrating individual judgement on work related problems and customer interactions, leadership, Transporters and EVS Techs. Responsible for maintaining efficient dispatching for transporters and discharge turnovers at an appropriate time for techs. To be fully engaged in providing uncompromised safety, superior quality, memorable patient/customer experience, and financial stewardship by coordinating the delegation of assignments within scope to Transport/EVS Techs. Answer the department hotline, pages, and dispatches for work assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Safeguard and preserves the confidentiality of patients and protected health information in accordance with the state and federal (HIPPA) regulatory requirements, hospital and departmental policies.

  2. Ensure a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices per policy.

  3. Responsible for keeping the dispatch area in a neat and tidy manner.

  4. Determine daily schedules and access CareAware Capacity Management system

  5. Assists if needed with minor moves and room set-ups.

  6. Logs Transport/EVS Techs into Capacity Management zones, prepare carephones, and determines that all cleaning zones are adequately staffed. Logs into Capacity management interface and prints daily census.

  7. Prioritizes bed needs based on: Bed control needs, length of time dirty. Changes "routine" clean assignments to "stat" or "clean next" if the dirty bed has been in the queue for more than 45 minutes and has not been "in progress" by the cleaning associate.

  8. Ensures that all "routines" discharges/transfer requests are in progress within 45 minutes, "clean next" are in the progress within 30 minutes and "stat" requests are in progress within 15 minutes. Attempts to keep the daily turnover time at 55 minutes or less.

  9. Contacts the EVS Supervisor in Capacity Management targets are not being met by the EVS Techs

  10. Contacts the Transport Supervisor in Capacity Management targets are not being met by Transportation Techs

  11. Observe discharge cleaning Techs time. Allows travel time of 5 minutes from room to room and allows the cleaning time of 25 minutes.

  12. Observes discharge/transfers on Transport Tech time. Allows travel time of 5 minutes from origin to destination

  13. Answer all calls within three rings and properly identifies oneself and the Department with a customer friendly tone of voice. Receives and answers the Department hotline Dispatch associates to respond to customer service requests.

  14. Assures dispatch line is transferred or forwarded to a "live voice" phone when leaving the dispatch area.

  15. Attends daily roll calls/huddles at the start of the shift. Attends monthly departmental meetings and training sessions.

  16. Reports deficiencies in area cleaned that include: Torn wallpaper, broken patient furniture, holes in the wall, soiled carpeting and upholstery, plumbing leaks, electrical items such as burnt out lights or inoperable wall plugs

  17. Know and follow hospital/EVS policy and procedures at all times.

  18. Oversee the Discharges though Capacity Management.

  19. Daily Reports on dispatching issues

  20. Know & follow hospital/Department Policy & Procedures at all times

  21. Follow Safety procedures exactly as outlined in the department's procedure manual

  22. Demonstrate knowledge and or performs all skills as required on department schedule.

  23. Pick up communicate tools/equipment and sign out at the beginning of shift. Return and sign in at end of shift.

a. Report any damage to Supervisor.

  1. Assists in training of associates performing both group and individual training

  2. Performs as a Transporter when needed and required my department management.

  3. All other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

High School Graduate or equivalent required

B. Qualifications/Experience

Minimum one year previous experience as an Environmental Aide, Transporter, or equivalent experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics are required

Basic Computer skills

Ability to readily learn the use of equipment and housekeeping functions

Ability to understand and speak English at the level which allows the safe and effective communication.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Knowledgeable with Scrubs dispensing equipment
