Required Qualifications:

  • AA degree in related field.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of office methods and equipment.

  • Working knowledge of English usage and math.

  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of filing systems.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

  • Computer experience in work processing and/or data entry.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.

  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with software/hardware training and support.

  • Experience with spreadsheet applications, communication applications, and/or graphic applications.

  • Experience with MS-DOS computer and database management.

  • Ability to set up schedules.

  • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.

Essential Functions:

Under general direction of an assistant manager and with minimal supervision, coordinates the assigning of substitute drivers and attendants to ensure that all routes are covered. Processes driver/attendant leave request and absences from work. Maintains and reviews dispatch reports, timesheets and related correspondence. Reporting directly to the Assistant Transportation Manager, the Dispatcher performs the following duties:

  • Analyzes available resources against immediate requirements for drivers and/or buses within the fleet to meet ongoing demand for providing transportation services to students and schools within FCPS. Assigns staff and makes adjustments to bus routes to ensure on-time bus transportation is provided.

  • Directs the pool of utility drivers and substitute drivers, assesses current shortages against available resources, assigns daily work assignments to individuals to maintain 100% operational capability, monitors their performance and hours worked.

  • Utilizes the two-way radio system to coordinate between operations and fleet to respond to emergency situations, re-routing request or any other non-routine event.

  • Reviews leave submissions for compliance and reviews dispatch log to assess driver availability for requested leave. Makes annotations and forwards leave requests to appropriate manager for approval/disapproval. Maintains leave file and enters data for use by Payroll Assistant to be used in compliance with payroll register. Ensures long term leave notifications are provided to pertinent personnel (Finance, Human Resources, etc.).

  • Processes and maintains files for Health Care Provider forms and doctor notes.

  • Documents and maintains historical file of school closures and cancellations.

  • Maintains office coverage and coordinates correspondence to news media during inclement weather for delays/closures. This position is classified as "Essential Personnel".

  • Serves as receptionist for Department, field's telephonic and written requests from parents and schools regarding bus routing information, adverse weather procedures, complaints about transportation service, and other general information. Greets and assists visitors to Transportation Department.

Other Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Management Staff.

Salary:

  • Support Salary Scale, Grade 11, 12-month position (260 days / 8 hours a day)
  • Starting Salary $20.19

Demonstrate patience and tolerance when assisting residents. * Exhibit a positive customer service attitude as demonstrated by exhibiting the ability to be approached, friendly, and willingness to assist others. * Displays personal initiative to complete work without constant supervision as demonstrated by consistently attending work as scheduled and by taking responsibility to address work related problems with the proper individuals. * Communication skills that include careful listening, being sensitive to other people's thoughts and feelings, thoughtful responses, timely and accurate reporting to appropriate people. * Commitment to confidentiality that pertains to both resident and co-worker information. * Must present with a neat, clean appearance always wearing name tag. * Participates in continuing education programs to promote self-development and contributes to the development of the team by helping new co-workers learn job tasks and responsibilities. * Observes for signs of resident abuse or neglect. Takes immediate action to prevent harm and to report incidents according to company policy and state law. * Protects resident rights and confidential information according to state and federal laws. * Ability to multitask. * Must be dependable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work without constant supervision. * In case of fire or other internal disaster, assists in evacuating residents to exits. Work Environment: * Stand / walk up to eight hours a day. * Frequently support up to 70 pounds. * Occasionally lift / carry up to 50 pounds. * Frequently kneel, bend, squat, climb and reach. * Secure proper assistance for transferring and lifting of residents as needed. * Workplace includes the entire campus excluding the attic. * Push/Pull up to 100 pounds. Minimum Qualifications: * Experience: Entry level position. Prior direct care experience preferred. * Education: High school diploma or GED. * Certification / License: Current CPR certification preferred. * Be 18 years of age or older, except as permitted in §2800.54(d). * Successful completion of Direct Care Worker Course. * Be free from a medical condition, including drug or alcohol addiction that would limit direct care staff persons from providing necessary assisted living services with reasonable skill and safety. * Have the ability to understand and speak English at a level which allows the safe, efficient performance of the job.
